o.k. i have an oppurtunity to buy a 96 ext. cab straight 6 auto from my cousin dirt cheap, but it has a problem. both fuel pumps went out (not at the same time) shop told him the front one was cheaper so he replaced that one, ran fine for a month then started to not want to go over 10 mph so he just flipped the fuel tank switch a few times and it started running fine again. o.k. so then it started not running right again and said he kept smelling gas he opened the rear tank cap and the tank was full! this is the rear tank that he didnt replace the pump on he had been running on the front. took back to the shop and they said the front tank was pumping fuel to the rear tank for some reason causing him to lose fuel pressure in turn causing the truck to run like crap. so they decided to un hook the rear tank (i dont know how) and it still ran like crap unless now you un plugged a vacuum line (not sure which one). so any way do any of you guys have a clue as i have never messed with any of this. i know i will need to put a pump in the rear tank but i am thinking there has too be some sort of valve that is mal functioning. any help will be greatly appreciated thanks Jeff

That's a common problem with those year F-150s, in fact Ford had a recall on them.
