I'm not sure of my memory but didn't some of the Ford factory lightweight drag racers use Econoline bucket seats? Was it the Galaxies or was it the Thunderbolt? Does anybody have any pictures of these? While I was at the wrecking yard today I checked out the old Econoline and it had its seat. I'm building a '61 Falcon bracket racer and I thought a "period correct" Ford bucket seat might be cool. Any opinions? Dan IP: 12.74.122.38 |

Yes the Thunderbolt came with the light weight Econloine bucket seats. The newest issue of Hot Rod Magazine has an article on a street driven original T-Bolt. Alex------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator

actually the right seats are found in Dodge "buffalo" vans of the mid-60's these have an opening in between the base and the back of about 2",,i have seen different types in Econolines, some are wrong style. These things may have been lightweight compared to the bench, but are still real heavy.25 lbs a piece i think,i got a copuple more...i will weigh one tomorrow! TomIP: 209.167.212.54 |

'scuse the typos...hey its 2am....the Galaxie seats were different ones, they may be the Econoline style, these have an exposed metal brace between the base and backrest, always red too. The T-Bolt seats i mention above are gold color, the Dodge upholstery is the wrong pattern(too many pleats)I think Crites Ind. has upholstery in the right style. TomIP: 209.167.212.54 |

MM, I went to find a Hot Rod mag and picked up the Feb. issue. No T-bolt but a good 460 buildup. Is it in the Jan. issue? Is there an interior pic? If so, can you scan and email me a copy? Thanks, DanIP: 12.74.103.67 |

I found a Hot Rod Mag at the grocery store. The seats look like the ones I found but I wish I could see how they're mounted. The article says they're non-adjusting Econoline units. On the van, they have a funny mount on one side and bolt to the engine cover on the other. Guess I'll figure out something. Dan IP: 12.74.121.194 |

I picked up the Econoline bucket seats today. The mounting brackets are different between the two but the seats appear to be identical. I'll probably only use the one (not sure) so the other might be available for trade.Any ideas where I might be able to pick up some fairly inexpensive seat covers for these. I don't see any reason that I can't recover them. They are very simple construction... they don't even hinge forward. Kinda like kitchen chairs! Oh, by the way... when I was taking these out I noticed the coolest battery box in the Econoline. Kinda looks like a lunch box. It had to come home with me. When I put the battery in the trunk of the Falcon, I think it will look cool to put it in an original Ford equipment battery holder. I'm thinking of painting the whole trunk with zolotone grey.
