I'd love to make my 2000 GT's scoops truly functional, but that is further in the future. I pretty much dislike fake stuff.

Thinking of opening the hood scoop, just for cooling. I have read that rain won't hurt the engine any. OTOH, I see rust on top of the lower block (is that what it is called on a modular?).

Good/bad idea?

Also, the side scoops would be no trouble to be made functional, but to what point? Do those rear disc brakes really need it?

Thanks,
-jc

jc, I would open them up!! I have no idea why Ford did'nt do it. Some rain won't bother it any, do you have a garage it's kept in?

Doug,

Naw, I wish! After remodel of the house (ongoing) is more-or-less complete, building a carport is next, to be upgraded to a garage.

I feel bad that my baby spends all her time outside in the sun (mostly) & rain (rarely), but, well hey, at present that's all I have going.

As for the hood scoop, I thought I'd drill a hole in the center of each 'honeycomb' cell. I just remembered you have ram air on your I6. How is that done w/o getting water into the intake when it rains?

Thanks!

jc, I know what you mean on the remodeling project!!! Started mine 10 yrs ago and should have it finished in a couple of months........Finally!!
Drillin the holes should work allright.......As far as my air intakes suckin water, I've only got caught in the rain about 3 times in the last 4 yrs , Maybe call it a "garage queen" ??????

I have a Stormin Norman hood on my 89. I fill the air box up with rags everytime it rains or when I wash it. But that is a ram air set up.
I also have a 99 GT. I don't like the hood hated it since it first came out. I'm thinking about the Cobra R hood or the hood they put on Saleens. I don't think that there would be any benifits to opening up your hood scoop on your 2k. I would have the fear of letting too much water fall on the coil packs. Which I have seen many short out after coolant leaks on them but that is in Expeditions, and there were a few who didn't get the heater core hose clamps put on. And the hoses really didn't leak all that much to short them out they had a little bit of dried antifreeze crust on them. That's what lead me to the hose.
As for cooling purposes why? Ford designed it to cool enough as is without the hood scoop open.
Also you are seeing rust on the engine block looks ugly but doesn't hurt anything. I coated my rear end and drive shaft with black paint the first day I got it so it wouldn't have that kind of rust.

I LOVE Ram-Air!
Cervini's now has a full functional ram-air kit for the Stalker hood on an SN95. It's only a matter of time before they branch it out to include the 99 and up model hoods.

I've been reading that the 2001 GT hoods will have a larger scoop than the base V6 models. But it is sill appearance only. I wonder if the Bullitt will be functional ram-air?
