I am trying to confirm a rumor. I've been told the SVO front control arms are longer than other models. True/False. Thanks.IP: 204.116.21.165 |

The SVO Mustang lower arms are unique to all other Mustang arms. They are the same as the Lincoln Mark of the same years. They are each 1 inch longer the the Mustang arms. the 87-88 T-bird arms are only 3/4 inch longer the the standard Mustang ones. The size of the ball joint is also different (larger). the K-member was also unique with different mounting points for the arms to account for the arms being longer, as were the wheels with a deeper backspacing to keep the tires inside of the fenders. There is no real advantage to using them as they are rare and heavy. I hear the ball joint is not designed to be replaced; you replace the entire arm; and Ford doesn't make them anymore. The SN95 arm or the 87-88 T-Bird arms are nearly identical and much more common. Because of this some SVO owners are converting to these arms and SN95 spindles and hubs and them upgrading their brakes to the 13 inch Cobra ones. IP: 207.24.72.10 |

Thanks guys. What I am trying to do here is find a longer control arm that will fit an 87 stang without mods for a mini stock racer friend of mine. He needs to get the caster and camber adjustments needed for the local asphalt track. We have already modified the strut mount and gained some. But we need a little more. We have voted against cutting the arm and making it longer. Not safe. Any suggetions would be appreciated.IP: 204.116.21.177 |

They don't even allow front wheel drive around here. We ran a 76 Stang II for 2 years and usually finished in the top 5 almost every race. The poor Stang II got pretty bang up to the point it is time to build another. We were running on Dirt but, the track owner decided to blacktop the track this year. So, it is a whole new ballgame. We built this one from the ground up. Using some of the race goodies available for the fox bodies. Having a Great time so far.IP: 204.116.21.177 |

Your best choise would be to use the 87-88 T-bird lowers. They extra 3/4 inch longer and will give you alot of negative camber. You should only need the right side ones as you need the camber on that side for asphalt circle track racing; at least that's what the ministock racers around here do with the Fox Mustang. Depending on the tracks banking you may even want the left side tire to lean out at the top so its straight up in the turns. Hope this helps. IP: 207.24.72.10 |
