I just purchased a set of MAC equal length headers and pro chamber for my 89 GT.Will I run into problems with clearance at the steering shaft? If so what's the fix? Also I want to install the Cobra insert and wanted to know if this is something I could do myself or have a body shop do it. Now,is there anything that can be done to the 1/4 window moldings other than replace them?Mine are pittin and turning white,UGLY.Thanks.AndyIP: 209.253.184.105 |

Hi Andy,Replace the Moulding. Its the only way. Cobra Insert?? Meaning in the grille???????? As far as the headers are concerned, you will have to remove the steering shaft to install them and maybe even raise the motor up out of the car a bit. You might even have to Ding the header tubes a bit for clearence. Tony. IP: 209.240.200.186 |

Are they MAC equal length shorties or long tubes? If they're shorties, there shouldn't be any clearance problems. If they're long tubes, there might be some clearance problems at the steering knuckle. I've got BBK 1 3/4" long tubes and had a clearance problem. My tech solved the problem by using a couple of quarter sized washers as shims at the driver's side motor mount. IP: 205.138.132.1 |

I installed a set of Mac equal-length shorties on both a Cobra and LX. On the Cobra the a tube rubbed on the steering shaft but the same headers fit on the LX fine. The only difference was the Cobra had GT-40 heads and the LX had standard HO heads. The only other thing different was that the Cobra had Convertable style engine mounts and the LX of course was stock.IP: 207.24.72.10 |

The headers are shorties, and I thought about installing the conv. engine mounts.Would that help?yes,it's the Cobra Grill insert, how hard is it to install?I called about the mouldings today. They said the only way to get them is to buy the whole 1/4 window.$900 each side!Does this sound a little high?Any other solution?thanks for the replies.AndyIP: 209.253.184.8 |

$900 If it's just faded, can't you touch it up with a little semi-gloss in a touch-up gun? ------------------ SteveLaRiviere/Administrator Mustangsandmore.com Cherishing the Past, While Racing into the Future! IP: 209.222.109.79 |

My Cobra had the convertable engine mounts and may have been the reason why the Mac headers rubbed on the steering shaft but I can't be sure. If you have the standard mounts and stock heads the headers should fit fine. You will have to remove the steering shaft to install them however.IP: 207.24.72.10 |

I just bought a set of Motor mounts that are 1 piece design, steel, for the Capri. they are lighter than stock and keep the motor in the original location. www.autospecialties.com or 281-261-5581 of if you are intrested in something from them, let me know personally. Ill try to help with the costs. They make other things like pulleys and stuff too. A nice, but pricey product. Or, if you have to, Flaming River makes a billet shaft kit that is thinner than stock. It also uses ball bearing rollers and is completely made out of billet. I have 1 of these on the Capri. Nice piece. If you are intrested, I can help you with this too. Just email me. On the Quater window moulding, Yes they are only available with the window, but $900 each sounds too High. Check with the dealers, and the local window shops too. I seem to recall them being roughly $300 or so each from the dealer. Cant hurt to check it out!Tony. [This message has been edited by Capri (edited 01-18-2000).] IP: 209.240.200.22 |

Do you own a Dremmel high-speed tool? If you do, the Cobra insert should be cake. I saw a right-up on installing the thing in a magazine of mine a while back, seemed pretty straight-foreward. I have known people to sand the 1/4 moulding down, glazing to fill the deeper pits, and paint them. This works, and is a good idea because the only way to replace the 1/4 mouldings is to replace the 1/4 windows.IP: 216.186.4.170 |
