Just what do I have to change to swap from 4 lug to 5. I have a friend who has a 5 lug maverick. Will the rear axles swap without doing anything to the brakes? Also , will front hubs and rotors off a small ranger fit the II?

Cant tell you if the ranger rotors fit.

Granada, Monarch, Versialles rotors are a bolt on.

The problem is making a calaper fit. Luckily, there are plenty of aftermarket adapters made. You'll find them in street rod rag.

The rear axle is easy enough if you dont mind relocating axle perches.

For the rear axle, the Maverick will work with relocated spring perches, but the '65 Mustang rear will come closer to fitting.

The front could also be done with an aftermarket set of II rotors with the 5-lug pattern. I believe Fatman Fabrications offers a set.

The Maverick rearend axles will swap easily, just use the brakes from the Maverick.
Also, If you find a 1974 Maverick with disc brakes (an option for the first time that year) they used a Mustang II caliper and a 5-lug rotor. In 1975 Mavericks started using Granada calipers and rotors, so it'll have to be a 1974. Check your parts store to see if they have rotors for an early 1974 Maverick, they should work perfectly.

How are you going to use the car?

IMHO, Stock MII brakes suck. Use them hard a couple of times and they go away. They will still stop but they do it poorly.

If your going to putz around like a blue haired old woman, fill the wheel wells with tire and son't worry about it.

If your going to drive your car with any type of attitude, enthusiasm, or spirit, Get bigger brakes. The people your car doesn't impact will never know how happy they are.
