I'm curious to know something from you II owners that live in the south, midwest or west..and especially if you live in a more populated area.
Is it at all common for you to see another II(especially a Cobra or a MachI or Ghia or some sportmodel type fastback (that is not a beater car) on the road when you drive yours? Or is it something that would make you do a double take, maybe even turn around?

I can honestly say that I havent seen one (unless it was a real rusty rat)out on the highway in 10-15 years..and even that was on the interstate, perhaps not even in NY state.

These cars have all but dropped off the face of the earth up here..along with Pintos and 70's small cars in general...I know they at least still survive in the boneyards out west(I think)..but how common are they in the parking lots and roads where all of you live?
..Mike

I see at least 1/week that's not a total beater.

About two cobras every 3mos or so.

Even had a nice hatchback pull up next to me and rev while I was x-mas shopping...talked to him since he ended up parked next to me at the mall...he was surprised I beat him, especially after showing off the 4cyl I beat him with ... he had a GT-40 long block in his ... It was a short race so I had a major gearing and traction advantage. Hooked him up with the address for a Cobra that's for sale.

Now, IIs are a rare sight anymore where I live. Within the first 3 years or so after I first bought my Ghia, I knew of about 6 in the area. Mostly all Ghias or coupes.

A guy in the next neighborhood over had a white '77 coupe...my buddy up the street was friends with him. Then the guy moved away.

On several occasions, I saw a custom coupe driving around...it was maroon, with a pink wavy/swirly design along the rocker panels. All the trim was blacked out too.

There was a '77 Ghia that went to the community college. And one day while I was at work, I spotted his car in the parking lot...then a few minutes later, he parked next to mine and started checking it out. We talked for a bit.

There's also a little old lady driving a white/red two-tone '78 coupe nearby. Haven't seen her in a while, but have spotted her at the grocery store more than a few times.

Other notables: a '76 Cobra that is now all midnight blue; a light blue hatchback with spoilers; and a copper-ish '74 coupe.

But as of late, I haven't seen any.

Just the ones that come to mind quickly...

PURPLE/tan top Ghia at the high school in the town I work in..

Brown coupe, same as above..

orange coupe, seen frequently near the big mall (and once on the side of the road)..

several beaters (I work in an old car town)..

black '78 Cobra II about 4 miles from home (seems to be driven pretty regularly)..

'76 white/blue V8 Cobra II that never moves (no, not for sale, "when mom quits driving, we're giving it to our daughter"..like she's gonna want it, pretty rough on the right side)..

yellow hatchback coming out of the Air Force base...

saw a real nice red hatch about a week ago going the other way on I35...

guy that works down the street with a white '76 Cobra II V6 (rough)..and hasn't stopped once in 4 years of IIs hanging around our shop..doesn't even seem to notice them! Curious if it's just an old car to him, or thinks I'm a snob!

Don't really drive mine often enough to really have the chance to hook up with another one

I've seen 3 II's in the last 6 months, none I would look at twice.

I saw a nice looking 74 coupe while I was cruising in my II. We cruised side by side on the freeway for a while. Looked original and was in pretty good shape. We did the thumbs up exchange and then he made his exit and I cruised on to the emissions station to go through my first and last emissions test. This year my car is exempt, so that will be one less headache I have to endure!!

I see a few every now and then, but most are either primered or just rotting away.

I've seen maybe 5 in the last II years. II of them more than once. A 76 CBII Blue w/white stripes and a V-6 and a light blue cpe where I work. Other than that, I've run into people at local shoes that have one in the garage, field etc., or know someone that does.

I saw one the other day parked in front of a Royal Farms store up the road a bit. It was a white coupe, with a luggage rack on the trunk. I've seen it there before, and I'm wondering if it belongs to someone who works there. If so, it may be time to pay them a visit...

I see several II's here in AL, but most are beaters. I know of a few Cobra II's around here, only one is really in decent shape. You should see how many are in the junkyards though
