Welcome to M&M HOSS ! Nice to have you with us. I would check all of the steering linkage and make certain that none of it is frozen or bound up. FoMoCo tie rods and idler arms have a tendancy to do that. I have factory quick ratio manual steering on MM and it steers quite easily. If all is in order, you may have to change pitman arms to shorten the ratio. Remember, a quicker ratio will make it harder to turn, so that wouldn't help your problem. Alex was saying that even with the quick ratio, he has no problems steering his Mustang. Of course the '69 'stang is a lot heavier, especially with the big block. If you want easier steering you'll have to get a slower ratio, (the Mach 1 probably had the quickest available). ------------------ -Charlie Ping 1970 Maverick Grabber -1987 5.0L B303 roller cam/rockers -1968 Mustang Toploader -1977 Lincoln Versailles 9 inch w/discs -1980 Granada Front Discs www.MAVERICKGRABBER.com IP: 131.204.141.99 |

THANK'S CPMAV AND MONEYMAKER,I'VE CHECKED THE NAME TAG ON THE GEAR BOX AND THE NUMBER IS SMKB-K WHICH IS PER THE MANUAL A 16:1 RATIO. I ALSO CHECKED THE OTHER NUMBERS AND THEY OR 1.SMB-D 19:1 2.SMA-R 22.1 3.SMA-T 24.1 4.AND I CHECKED MY MACH 1 SHEET AND IT SAID THEY EVEN HAD A 25:4.1 AND A 20:5.1 FOR POWER STEERING. SO OF THESE RATIO WHICH WILL GIVE ME BETTER FEEL LESS EFFORT TO STEER.THANKS FELLAS.IP: 63.68.107.30 |

Hoss, sterring effort and feel are unfortunatly not related. Your desired effort would probably be achieved with the 20.5 to 1 ratio. With less effort comes less "feel". the tighter the ratio the better road feel you will have. There really is no compromise. Have you ever considered "pumping iron"? lol Alex------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator Fleet of FoMoCo's too long to list! http://superstockers.homestead.com/week.html IP: 152.163.204.178 |
