The H-pipe is what connects the exhaust manifolds to the remaining exhaust tubing. Its in the shape of an H . Hope that helps. P.S. If im wrong someone please correct me Mike ------------------ 1968 Mustang Coupe 289

Mike every one knows that the H-pipe is better. J/KThe X -pipe is said to give better top end and the H- pipe for low end.And if you ask Alex,or SteveW they will both tell you not to do neither. If your '88 has a stock exhaust then yes, you have one. It's the pipe that has the catalytic converters on it. Called an "H" pipe because it has a crossover tube to balance the exhaust. It can be replaced with either a higher flowing cat-equipped pipe or an "off-road" (yeah, right ) pipe without converters. By the way, welcome aboard soldier. Dave

Mike thanks that worked great. Nice set up have you ever ran the 1/4 in it.It seems like it would a run around a low 13's 1/4.Do you drive it on the street ever. And do have a 8.8 rear with or with mods for those slicks.SCOOP ------------------ 65 coupe,351w,RPM intake,Carter625,shorty headers,2.5 exhaust, Flowmasters,C4,open 8" 2:80,Big Boss 429 hood scoop,Crager SS,Black Suede. SCOOP, i beleive it or not i run a 7.5 rear end with the spider gears welded up in the carrier. it takes a long time to do it right though. weld alitle, let it cool for a long time then weld a little lrt it cool for a long time and repeat for about 2 days.------------------ mike r racing is real everything else is just a game. 81 capri-7.56 @88mph 1/8 1.56 60 ft.

Well, just for a little controversy, I have a buddy who installed an X-Pipe on his '91 vert 5.0 5-speed because he loved the way my 5.0 sounded with an H-Pipe. Problem is, his doesn't sound anywhere NEAR as good as mine! There isn't too much difference between his Mustang and mine, either! We both have almost the exact same performance upgrades, as well as the same stock stuff with one minor difference (throttle body size). So, after he got his X-Pipe and revved it up to 6000 rpms and the sound produced was barely a hollow imitation of the sound produced by my H-pipe and Mustang when I revved it to 6000 rpm's, well, he was a weee bit jealous! Don't get me wrong, I'm in no way saying ALL H-Pipes are better than X-Pipes! Not at all. Not even close! I'm just saying that my buddy's X doesn't sound nearly as good as my H! There's a dyno comparison in a 5.0 magazine that shows a pretty healthy improvement with a x pipe vs an h pipe. It was throughout the rpm range, too. ------------------

LOL! Well, like I said, I sure as heck wasn't implying all H-pipes are better than all X-pipes! Especially because I recently learned a little bit about the physics involved with exhaust gasses and the different effects between the X and H, and how the X is more efficient when properly set up. I just remember the look on my buddy's face when he realized his didn't sound as good as mine!! And it was even sweeter because he paid to have someone swap out his pipes. Renee and I swapped out the pipes on the Silver Fox ourselves! (WEG) Stewart

from what IVE noticed, it seems that on 5.0s, H-Pipes give more of a "roar" where as xpipes give more of a rumbly drone maybe Im biased with my bros 89 but hey, I like how his Stang sounds with the x they DO sound different though ------------------ Dan~ 1965 Coupe "BeeBop" 200ci Straight "6"~2.77 3-spd w/Hurst Shifter~Pertronix Elec.
