Every year Pam gets a Christmas newsletter from a girl she went to college with. This year it's four pages about her life; stuff like photos of their kids, a report on their summer vacations, details about their jobs, house, pets, yadda, yadda, yadda... It reads like a promotional brochure. They are definitely impressed with themselves.

Pam has seen her once or twice since they graduated about 13 years ago. I wish we could get off the mailing list...

Thats great Sam, now we know where Peg got it from. She has been telling us that for the last couple of years

I agree with Steve, every year its a Xmas card filled with BS, but this year it was a big sheet with a montage of pictures, "Here we are at xxxx", "Here we are at xxxx", blah blah blah.

I absolutely hate the fluffy form letters we receive at christmas. Unless I am catching up on relatives, I really don't care how many A's little Johnny got on his report card or how many blue ribbons little Susie got with the 4H!!! Everyone's kids are great and deserve some type of accolades from their parents, but don't expect me to get overjoyed over the progress that some kid made who I never met from parents I haven't seen in 10 or 20 years. And I could give a crap how many vacations you took this year or how many vacation properties you now own, thank you very much!!
I'll step off my soapbox now and sit quietly sipping my eggnog.

Sounds to me like that person is really missing something in their life. That is just my opinion. I think people like that may be trying to put on some kind of show to prove how well off they are when in actuality they are probably miserable...."you should see the 25karot diamond Bob bought me I guess I could forgive him for sleeping with my sister, besides he also got me a brand new BMW 740 man he really loves me!! He will probably never beat me again!"
I think people who are trully happy give off the vibe and people see their happiness without having it shoved in thier face.

Wow. Maybe I should stop being amazed at the many differences here at M&M with the members, but I guess because we all get along so well, sometimes I take for granted and forget that we do differ in our opinions with regard to some things.

For me, I actually enjoy reading the Christmas greetings/family story's. I have yet to encounter a single one like those proffered as examples in the above posts. Being able to capsulize a year of events for the family in question and then share them with their friends is something I look forward to reading, especially for those friends I haven't been able to keep in contact with over time.

I'd guess the difference here is, I'm getting these from people I care about, as opposed to someone like in Steve's case.

Merry Christmas to all y'all!

Stewart

I with you too Stewart.
I enjoy catching up with family and classmates that I'm not that close to throughout the rest of the year.
Granted these letters are usually filled with fluff and don't give a clue to the real pains of living. But people generally just want to share the good news. I don't perceive it as bragging.
I have two aunts who married twin brothers. They each had ten children. I receive these letters from them every year. Its the only way I know what all my cousins are up to.
However, I do also receive one such letter from an ex-step-mother. I don' have a clue who all the people she is telling me about are. But I like the woman and it makes her feel good telling me about her family so that's okay.
I don't send them out, because I guess I've gotten lazy and use email all year.
Happy holidays!
Joyce

I just received a letter yesterday from..are you ready...the mother to the best friend of a 7 years ago ex-boyfriend...whew!! Don't know why this woman keeps sending me this stuff every year. I've seen her once in that 7 yr period and it's not like we were all that close to begin with...guess it will end with next year after we have moved into our new place.

I'm with you Stewart. I enjoy reading MOST of them. People that I think about, but never seem to find the time to catch up with. I did get a bizarre one the other day, though. It went through all of the surgeries/car accidents that the whole family had had, lost jobs, yada, yada, yada. It was morbid. I could have done without that one at Christmas. Christmas should be a time of rejoicing, so I enjoy reading the upbeat ones of people actually enjoying life.

Don't get me wrong, I have a few true friends that I keep in touch with and it's good to here that they are doing well, but they are poeple that keep me updated all the time and usually just call to say "hello, how's the family?"
They never send a brag statment, and most of these conversation lead to a dinner get together and good times.
The fact that you don't send back a pretencious letter is proof that you live a far richer life than that persons money will ever buy them(stepping off soap box).

We lived in Washington for a year when I was a kid. My Mother kept up an annual Christmas gossip exchange with a woman from there for over 40 years. Obviously, their friendship endured. She died 3 yrs. before my Mom. I wonder if my Mom wrote, Pete got arrested for drag racing and made front page in Suburban Life. Also, he came home drunk and mowed down my lilacs. LMAO!! A lot of that stuff is pride, but also human. I enjoy the ongoing stuff from a couple gearhead buddies- on line!!

do some overlapping imaging and put yourself in the background of all their pictures they sent you. Send them back and tell them to stop following you.

I never stop amazing any body on how different my opinions are on most things.I think for me it's the combo of Retail management, and my sort time with RPD.I only like to hear from people that turelly care about me and my family.Others wise please dont waste my time with those cute letters.
I like people as much as anybody I just like for people to be real with me.If you think I'm a a&& then tell me.I'm fine with that as much if you like me tell me.
Now my wife is so not like me,she loves the letters and the hugs from people she hardly knows. She's very warm and caring and giving. She gose out of her way to write or send cards to anybody that sends dose the same for her.She thinks I'm to quick to judge people.Maybe thats why she has more friends then me.:sad:Well thanks Stewart I feel alot better now,Your good you.

When I was a newlywed and we lived in Columbus, Ga. (Tom was stationed at Ft. Benning) there was a couple that lived across the cul-de-sac from us. Every year since I've received one of those letters from her about how her husband made Colonel, then how he retired and they moved to the Baltics (he speaks fluent Russian) and he's making all this $$, and they are vacationing in Paris and how great her kids are and yada yada yada... This is a woman I have not seen in 16 years!! Geez!!!

huuuummmmmmm.....haven't received one from her this year....thank goodness!!

I did enjoy the ones from my sister-in-law's in Salt Lake City, and L.A. though. I guess that's the difference.....
