Ya know. this car is in pretty good shape but when I look around at some of the thing the previous IDIOTS (I mean owners, sorry) have done to the poor thing.. Damn

Like lets see. Brakes are mushy so I start looking and EVERY Cylinder is shot. EVERY ONE.. BUT they didn't do that, that happens, they have just cut the Drums like a thousand times and never got new ones... (nice big parts bill for me)

Then you get the **** where instead of FIXING some wiring problems under the dash they jsut ran some new wires to get the F'N radio to work but now the only way to get the dash lights on is by hitting the high beam.. I mean WTF

Not to mention how the jerk rolled the inner rear quarter wheel well lips to get he big *** tires on there.

then of course on the rear valance instead of fixing a corner that is cracked they put F'N duct tape on it and painted over it.

Sorry I knew all of these things when I bought it but as I get it tightened up and make my lists it just pisses me off.

Anyone else got a good one?

I'm running into the same things with my Mach 1.

There are sheetmetal screws everywhere. Sill scuff plates, dash, fender aprons, starter solenoid, console, window trim, many other places. Someone just went on a campaign to replace every factory screw with hareware store issued tin.

Parts were held on with telephone wire.

The screws on the sport mirrors were filled in with solder.

The beautiful Acapulco blue paint was painted over with grabber blue spray can.

The gap between the front fender extensions and front fenders was covered by aluminum A/C duct tape.

The left front fender of my '70 was replaced with a front fender from a '69.

The front fender aprons were replaced and are held on with silicone sealer and sheetmetal screws.

The '351' letters on the hood are the type you buy for a mailbox.

So I can relate.

It feels good, though, to correct these things one by one. My car looks a lot less wacky now than it did when I got it.

Yes my car has many of items that are half as#ed.But I did buy it knowning that, but thats why I took my in the direction did.It was in need of lots of help so why not just Hot Rod it.And I'm sure I too have done some idiot things to my car.And I'm sure I'll do more, but I try to do it right.Wiring the guy had gauges in it already I took them out and marked the wires to what gauge they went to.Because all the wires are blue,so much for color coding. The trans had three bell housing bolts and two were loose. He told me hey 2 out 3 is not bad.
They is more bondo on this car them most auto stores stock.
He took the org, steering wheel off with a large screw driver,so now the shaft is all messed up.
He cut the dash pad holder off the dash, and put a used pad there with alot of glue.Whent to remove the dash pad, after 2 days of trying it rips off.And they before is a dash that been cut like its out of hacker movie.
I spent 3 days sanding and grinding and painting the dash, now it looks like a Falcon dash which is cool, because my car is alittle different aways.
He broke the bottom of the drivers window rail off yes its gone.So he could get his speakers in the door.

Ok I'll stop now you get the point.

Sorry guys, but I gotta say this. Were any of you ever young, immature, and just plain stupid. When you were first driving did you ever do any thing to your cars that you thought was cool or right for the time, then your dad or someother higher authoratative figure noticed what you had done and threatened to place their size 11 shoe up your a$$. Been there done that, on both ends. Whenever we buy a used car we must accept the fact that the previous owners weren't as smart as we are. If we want perfection, we have to pay for it. Or spend $30000 and buy new cars....then let the dealers fix if it breaks within the warranty period.

The stupidest thing I think I did was paint my Comet Pro\imer black.... only I ran out of primer, so its half Primer black/Glacier (baby) Blue

anyways, on to other fools

My '68 Mustang:

the rear brake drums were the wrong ones, and the P/O spaced the replacements with washers between the axle hub and the drum.

The aftermarket dual exhaust.. the hangers were welded to the bottom of the rear seatbelt bolts... when we went to take the bolts out we used the Impact wrench... needless to say it wasn't pretty

Most of the engine parts DIDN't require tools to take out... not to mention the four cracked pistons.

The car would only start in Reverse.

The Speedo was the only operating Gauge in the car.

The Interior consisted of the seats and headliner and the dash.... the dome light did work...

When I first bought my 68 coupe (many years ago) of course the first thing I wanted to do was paint it. Everything worked on the car when purchased. So in the process of doing the jambs I went to pull out the dome light switch. Needless to say but someone replaced it (on both sides I might add) by just twisting the wires together and no tape or anything else. I guess it kept blowing the fuse so probably the same genius put some aluminum foil on the fuse. Guess I should have checked out the fuse panel first.

Can you say Smoke City????????

I thought the car was going to go up in flames before I could get the battery disconnected. Luckily it just got the harness from the passenger side door switch to the fuse panel. Drove it for years with no dome light and the fuse removed. Did find a donor car at a junk yard last year and replaced the wiring.

Oh yeah the same electrical engineer put the back up lights in the same way.

You know,,, Over the years, I have found that I am really good at tearing things down/apart... When it comes to putting it back together,,, I've learned to get someone QUALIFIED to assist me...

I have always been able to do anything I put my mind to do... And when it comes to finish work... I pride myself in finding someone that knows what the hell they are doing...

I can honestly say no. I wasn't born with the half-a$$ed gene. If I didn't know how something went together, I looked it up or got outside help. I'm not saying I've never made mistakes, there have been plenty, but I've spent my life straightening out messes instead of creating them.

Steve I have never tried to half *** anyhting. But I'm sure I have in the past and will again.I was born with enough half assed genes for both of us.
When I was younger I was to smart to read any books on how to do anything.
But now I'm older and wise enough to know when to ask for help and where to get it.Thats why I'm here.
