x-mas sucks, all it has become is a huge money grab for big companies. It is suppose to be for the children , but , has become a contest between the people to see who can buy the best gifts for there kids. It is about giving , but, not giving to have bragging rights. We buy for our kids and grand kids , but , not to extreme, our biggest expense is a donation to the cancer research foundation. My dad died dec 1st 2000, I guess that just left a much more sour taste in my mouth about x-mas than I already had.We should all be thankful for what we have , not , for what we expect to get for x-mas, and , then we are dissapointed if it does not happen. now that I got that off my chest, the best holiday we have , or , kind of holiday is HALLOWEEN. Now that is when you truly see children having fun and being themselves. not being bratty and crying because they didn,t get that $1000.00 gift. I feel much better now, thanks for letting me vent. I don't hate it, but I definitely don't enjoy it as much as I used to.Maybe having to work in a busy retail establishment (even busier this time of year) is part of the reasoning...and for the past ~10 years or so, the only family that I've spent the holidays with are the immediate family. Other relatives live on the other side of the country, so it's not like we can just drive over to their houses Christmas morning anymore. It's a mere 2 weeks before the "big event," and I'm still not feeling too excited. ------------------ Frank S.----MCA Member 40390 '99 Mustang coupe '77 Ghia--"II Good" '76 Cobra--project

Alex...I skipped all the replies because I wanted to tell you that I can understand the way you feel...The true MEANING of Christmas has been almost wiped out by so much commercialism which starts in late August... truly a bunch of Money Grabbers, advertising their wares, hoping the kids will hound their parents until they agree to buy Billy that wagon and Betsy that doll!!Now to say you hate Christmas...I can under-stand that statement, but the true meaning of Christmas is what is should be about...not all this hullabaloo about buy this, buy that, what am I going to get him for Christmas; will she like this for Christmas...It's enough to make you want to run and hide!! and the STRESS ! Geeze!! We used to exchange gifts..with all family members; one year we cut that expense in half and sponsored a family for Christmas with the money we saved...another year, we gave the money to a family who needed it badly...last year we only gave presents to Tommy and Kelsey (Ked's)...that worked out fine... This year I am helping a 13 year old girl whose family is needy... Now that makes you feel good...Just try to find a family you can help and cut your running and stress at Christmas time...see if you don't start enjoying...they sure will.. Besides, there are lots of bargains AFTER Christmas!!

thats the problem with x-mas, people only seem to want to help other people when they can be recognised for it ( this is not directed to you mustang tally). I applaud you though, at least you are helping out some unfortunate people at this so called happy time. I think it is better to do it all year long as we are able to, not just at this time. john ------------------ 65 2+2 FASTBACK 68 COUPE 87 TAURUS WAGON 98 F150 XLT 4 WHEEL DRIVE Member: Vancouver Island Mustang Association M&M #1710 MyPhotoPage

John it seems as we have a few frightening similiarities, I also agree with your description of what xmas has become As you guys all know My Dad died Nov 29 1999, and I was told on December 18 1999 that I was going to need open heart surgery within 6 months was the time line that I was given, this was a pretty hard pill to take 3 weeks after dad died of a heart attack. My next year was again very crappy having been cut off unemployment in november of 2000 and forced to live without anything until mid January when welfare kicked in. Ever since I left home in 1986 xmas was the only time that the whole family was together we have never been well off financially and we never really put a bunch of importance on the gift portion of the holiday, for us it was just being together. Since Dad has been gone it is very hard to look at it the same way. This year has come with some good news and I am happy for that, but I still find it very hard to get into the xmas spirit. When it comes a little closer i will do my best to make it an enjoyable holiday for Taylor and Tracy but I really dont feel the same way about it as i used to I hope that everyone has a good xmas and that we all stay safe and enjoy the time spent with family over the holidays In order to chase the xmas blues away I am buying car parts to ward off depression Sorry for the rant ------------------ Ed Heart mods:Trick High flow titanium valve ported & polished Listen close: "tic tic tic" No folks thats not a noisy lifter thats the sound of big flow! 1984 5.0L LX Conv 3600 lbs 13.41 at 101.89 SIR http://ragtopjr.hypermart.net/ http://ragtop-racing.stangnet.com/ http://mbmustangs.tripod.com/index.htm

My Sister's upset because her lieing, cheat Butt-head boyfriend is not invited to dinner...She has a christmas list 5 miles long and all I want is simple things! Grandma's back in the hospital...blood clots from the Winobago accident...she should be out by X-mas, but no promises... AND All I want is the stupid window fixed! BUT on the flipside I get to spend time with the family, even the parts I would like to dis-own. Andria

I LOVE Christmas!!!!! One reason is that I am a perpetual kid myself. It's a great time of family and giving. It IS what you make it. I really don't believe that you have to cave in to the commercialism that is everywhere. I too, have had bad experiences at Christmas also, one of which was very bad. Ten years ago, I lost a wonderful wife to cancer. She had a stoke on Dec 11th and was in the hospital for 3 months before she passed away. I don't feel that the season is any less wonderous!!

Right on! Life is what you make of it! Christmas is the time of year you TRY to be happy, and make your loved ones happy and enjoy this time with them. Don't let the commercialism spoil it for you. It's just retailers trying to make a living. {did you ever notice when you earn money, you are providing for your family, while when other people earn money, they are being 'moneygrubbers?' } I don't know if any of you ever studied neural linguistic programming, but one of the things it teaches you is that there are people who are externally referenced and people who are internally referenced. People that are externally referenced are always influenced by outside forces, such as: world news, peer pressure, weather, financial problems, health problems, etc... They are never happy, because the outside world is always tugging at them like a puppeteer. They are not in ultimate control of their lives. People that are internally referenced live their lives like they are in control. They are aware of outside forces, but they refuse to be controlled by them. They live happier lives because of it. Control is power. Remember, Abe Lincoln said "A man is generally just as happy or unhappy as he makes his mind to be." ------------------

I don't think I hate christmass. But I had the opertunity to get off the family christmass mery go round and I took it. Now I just ignore it and wait till next year. I like to sleep on holidays! I don't have a tree, I don't have to buy any thing for any body, and I don't have inlaw problems. So it works out well for me. My kids get gypped, but they get spoiled every other weekend, so it works out for them too. Besides, they are already eying my cars! ("You know dad, I'll be getting my drivers licence soon and I was thinking....") Not too soon though! I like geting my friends stuff all year long, just because, not just because its christmass. It's good for little kids though. So I supose you can add me to your list Alex. ------------------ MCA# 48755 71 Mach 1 69 Fastback 92 F-150 M&M#884

Things to look forward to this Christmas: 1 Spend 1/2 hour looking for a parking spot at the "MEGA MALL" on Dec. 23. 2 Walk 10 minutes to the "MEGA MALL" because the nearest parking spot is 3 blocks away. 3 Spend several hours shoulder to shoulder with all the other last minute shoppers, scrambling to find some gifts to buy. 4 Walk out to the car (in the pi$$ing rain OR snow, depending on where you live) to discouver that leaving the headlites on while shopping WILL kill the battery! 5 Be thankfull that you parked on a hill AND your car is a stick shift 6 Wrap the gifts, while trying to prevent your 2 dogs from eating the ribbons & bows. 7 Spend "quality time" with relatives you don`t really care for. 8 Shovel snow from the sidewalk in front of your house 9 Catch a cold from shoveling snow from sidewalk. 10 Wait for the inevitable VISA statements to show up in January. OK, Alex, add me to the list.------------------ 78 Fairmont 428 4 speed 10.20@130mph 80 Fairmont 302 5 speed 12.8@105mph 85 Mustang NHRA Stocker under construction, 302 5 speed

Add another to the list. I can't STAND X-mas. First of all, I don't believe in god but that's not my gripe. The stress of buying gifts for your friends and family is enough to drive anyone mad. What do you give people who have enough money to get whatever they want? And just exactly when does the "X-mas season" start? Apparently, the local Lowe's thinks it starts the end of OCTOBER!!! That's right. I went in to the store before Halloween and they had X-mas decorations up. If it was up to me (and it's not. My wife likes X-mas), I wouldn't have a tree, I wouldn't put up any lights and wouldn't send out any cards. It's all just a waste of time and money. What happens after X-mas? You have to take down all the lights and decorations and put them away. And what do you think happens to the cards you sent out to your family and friends? In the garbage can they go. Another waste of money (for the cards themselves and the postage). And wait until you get the electric bill after running all those stupid lights night after night. And if I could convince my family and friends to do so, I wouldn't get or give any presents. I can pretty much get whatever I want, whenever I want it. I pretty much wear short sleeves all year long so what am I going to do with another ugly sweater from Grandma? The same thing I did with the last ugly sweater. Put it in the closet until I get tired of looking at it and donate to the Salvation Army. So, yes, Virginia, the is a real life Grinch. And he lives in Virginia. And one more thing I thought of last night... All that time spent wrapping gifts and what happens? Off comes the paper and in the trash it goes. Another big waste of time and money. Being with FAMILY is what i like best about the holidays.. even more so this year, as I almost lost my Father THREE times this year (all were the result of piss-poor Doctors!.). I really could care less about the gift giving (I do it cause I LIKE to.). It is a beautiful time of the year, time of reflection, thanks, and coming together.(P.S: I hate commercialism, like that #W$*#&%#%^#$%# lil @#$@#$ Dell kid exploiting the holidays to sale a cheap worthless POS!, not to mention Billy Maze and his "Oki-clean" B.S ) there for, no I do NOT hate Christmas (I have even more reason to love it this year..). (BTW: this last sunday was the first time my truck has had a FULL tank of gas since the Beginning of August. I got gas money + $20 bucks for helping my brother-in-law, and I bought my cousin ("Chevyenemy") a present with it. Heck, even being dirt broke, with bankrupt parents I bought it because i WANT to get it for him. Even though no one in my family expects anything from us this christmas, I still plan on getting everyone something, because I want to.)

I've worked in broadcasting since 1975. I've been forced to listen to and watch Christmas commercials and Christmas music at least four hours a day five days a week for the last 26 years. I've had to work Christmas eve and Christmas day and missed the family Christmas. I've been forced into gift exchanges at work with people I didn't know. I've spent the night at work so I could be there at 5AM with 12 inches of snow on the ground. I spent Christmas day at work when the entire town lost power all day. The temp went below frezing the evening of the day before and stayed below freezing all day the 25th and the 26th. I had to go in to work at 6AM on my first Christmas off in 6 years and answer the phone and relay messages to the crew broadcasting at the radio station transmitter site where we had a generator. The building I spent that Christmas in had no heat (no power). The youngest family member (my nephew) is a freshman in college now. We wait till the specials after Christmas.Tracy

Xmas isn't my favorite either... i don't harbour fondness for the cold weather and while i try to fake Xmas happiness ,i really get depressed by it all. I suppose it'd be different if i had family of my own or something.

For you Alex Proof Santa must be a Woman - you decide...I hate to be the one to defy sacred myth, but I believe he's a she. Think about it. Christmas is a big, organized, warm, fuzzy, nurturing social deal, and I have a tough time believing a guy could possibly pull it all off! For starters, the vast majority of men don't even think about selecting gifts until Christmas Eve. Once at the mall, they always seem surprised to find only Ronco products, socket wrench sets, and mood rings left on the shelves. On this count alone, I'm convinced Santa is a woman. Surely, if he were a man, everyone in the universe would wake up Christmas morning to find a rotating musical Chia Pet under the tree, still in the bag. Another problem for a he-Santa would be getting there. First of all, there would be no reindeer because they would all be dead, gutted and strapped on to the rear bumper of the sleigh amid wide-eyed, desperate claims that buck season had been extended. Blitzen's rack would already be on the way to the taxidermist. Even if the male Santa DID have reindeer, he'd still have transportation problems because he would inevitably get lost up there in the snow and clouds and then refuse to stop and ask for directions. Other reasons why Santa can't possibly be a man: * Men can't pack a bag. * Men would rather be dead than caught wearing red velvet. * Men would feel their masculinity is threatened...having to be seen with all those elves. * Men don't answer their mail. * Men would refuse to allow their physique to be described even in jest as anything remotely resembling a "bowlful of jelly." * Men aren't interested in stockings unless somebody's wearing them. * Having to do the Ho Ho Ho thing would seriously inhibit their ability to pick up women. * Finally, being responsible for Christmas would require a commitment. I can buy the fact that other mythical holiday characters are men......... Father Time shows up once a year unshaven and looking ominous. Definite guy. Cupid flies around carrying weapons. Uncle Sam is a politician who likes to point fingers. Any one of these individuals could pass the testosterone screening test. But not Santa. Not a chance.
