I am at my Dad's in Fuquay-Varina, NC, and went over to Carolina Mustang, the place that I bought my car from in 1994. The owner, Ray, used to have a big yard fenced in full of mustangs, bought several used parts off of him for my car. Well, we were talking with him and he said that a new building was built next door facing his yard, they complained to the city, and he had to get rid of the cars. He said he pulled and kept the engines, but more than 100 pre-73 mustang parts cars got slammed. I can't believe he didn't just give them away. I'm still sick just thinking about it.

I really hate stupid people. If you go to a location and see something that you don't like, look elsewhere to build your building or home. I really get hacked when I see an article in the paper about someone just moving into the area and complaining about the noise from the Army post or the Air Force base. It is not like it is a secet that they are there. But I digress... Bum deal about all those Mustangs. ------------------ Motor Safe! That's really sad especially since some of those parts will never be available again, and that someday we will no longer be able to restore our Mustangs because things like that happen ------------------ joe 2001 SVT Cobra 68 GT Fastback 98 F-150 90 Escort GT (smokes the tires in all 5 gears, or just smokes through all gears)

Sam, I agree that it really sucks...but, I'm sure the Carolina had some options that could have prevented this, like complying with zoning laws, building a bigger fence Mike

Bastards! How about we find out who this "business" was that moved in and BOYCOTT them. Run 'em out of town on a rail. If they didn't like it don't build there, or build a friggin privacy fence.

Well, he's had his place for over 20 years, and the city basically grew up around him beyond his control. He basically had a parts yard in what has become like a downtown area. The place built next door is two stories, and has about 5 or 6 businesses, so he would have had to make his 6' fence into like a 15 or 20' fence so people on the second floor wouldn't be able to see it. Figure the cost of the fence versus profit from the used parts, it probably wasn't a very hard business decision, although we'd all agree it was probably a difficult personal decision. My dad's been talking about buying an acre out in the farmland area just to put parts cars on, maye build a lean-to or garage to put good stuff in. But now you have to have it zoned for a salvage yard, comply with all kinds of EPA rules if antifreeze or oil spills, etc. What a pain in the butt. Such a shame.

EPA and Derm are a handful to deal with. Salvage yards here have had to concrete their entire yard! They put an engine rebuilder out of business by making him pay to have 8' of soil removed from his back area and have it trucked out of state. Like many, he was slipshod in his cleaning and just let petroleum base waste drain into the ground.

There is a car buff in my town that had many unregistered cars sitting in his yard. The neighbors complained, so the county told him that he couldn't have unregistered cars sitting out. So.....he built a really big red barn right in front of the neighbors house to put the cars in. Now when the neighbors look out the window, all they can see is a big red barn. It's legal.

now that is a building that would have made a better target for Bin Ladens goonies. Why does everyone that builds a place next to a long established racetrack or wrecking yard think it's their god-given right to have the neighborhood transformed into the Hanging Gardens of Babylon just for them.

Thanks for the invite, kk. we'll have to remember that next time we come through. As it was, I spent most of my time helping dad put in insulation and hang drywall in the attic over the garage that will be Casey and I's spare room when we come visit. We're already on the move again visiting Casey's parents.
