If you are going to drive it regularly, operability and safety items should be done first. If the car is going to be parked until the completion of the project, make sure that the car is sound. Nothing worse than getting the engine rebuilt, fresh paint on the car, and then finding out that the frame is wasted (I have seen that before). Bummed out the owner of a 71 Mach I big time. He put a lot of money into the car just to have it trailered out of the alignment shop where it was discovered that his frame was in real bad shape.

What George said!!!! If you are going to drive it with any regularity while you work on it, then the mechanicals have to be up to snuff. If it's a tear down type project, then body work and paint while you rebuild the engine and trans for reinstallation after the paint.

Agree with George. Getting a dollar figure as to what the total is: rust repair, paint and body plus the mechanicals, to determine whether this is the right car to do.

just my 2 cents worth.

engine, drive train, mechanical.. make sure everything functions.

Then check out the body but dont do too much major work till you ahve a list of all the things you need to do. Then jump on it with a plan.

Finally interiorer..

Hey thats my plan.

Safety first! Go through the brakes and suspension and make them 100% before you even think of touching anything else. You can't hot rod if you're dead.
