Okay, heres my lobbying effort for Reno as a place for the 2001 M&M gathering. It's over 50 words. Oh well.Reno bills itself as the Biggest Little City in the West. Entertainment there is not limited to gambling, although there is plenty of that to enjoy. All of the typical casino stuff is there to enjoy: gambling, drinking (not that anybody would want free alcohol?), shows and other night life. In addition, Reno offers all kinds of outdoor activities. Lake Tahoe is just a few miles down the road. Depending upon the time of year you can boat or ski. Off-roading (in a Mustang? ) and hiking trails are all over. In Reno itself, they have the remains of Bill Harrahs incredible car collection housed in a wonderful museum. For the bargain hunter, pawn shops abound. Nevada has one of the lowest tax rates on alcohol in the nation. You can stock up on the good stuff to take home. The weather there is not nearly as hot as Las Vegas. Its located in the high plains so the weather is primarily dry. Warm in the summer, but not too much so, and cool in the winter. Reno is a premium destination city. As such, airfares are extremely low and room rates in hotels can be incredible. Under $20 a night are not uncommon at some of the smaller casinos like Circus Circus or Fitzgeralds. Having been there several times, I can tell you that Reno is a lot of fun and is much more of a small town the Las Vegas. I think the combination of low airfares for those who cant or wont drive, low room rates and the central location for the West Coasters makes it a perfect choice for our 2001 gathering. For more information, go to www.reno.com Thanks! Dave

Ever heard of Hot August Nights Sam? :>) If you havent, where have you been?!?! :>) Of course everyone knows its one of the premier hot rod events. Anyhow, its held usually in early August and lasts over a week. The Reno area mustang club has a show in the summer too, would have to look and try and find out when it usually is.------------------ Tim 1965 Mustang coupe, 200 ci w/ a Holley 2300, Clifford header, and true duals w/ 26" Smithys http://all.at/mustang https://mustangsandmore.com/ubb/I65Stang.html IP: 24.11.225.170 |

Dave, I concur 100% with everything you said. Plus with Lake Tahoe a close drive away, you have a ton of family things to do (the "Ponderosa", Vikingsholm castle, boating and water skiing, etc, etc,etc.). The one thign we want to avoid though is scheduling anything around HOT AUGUST NIGHTS. It would be a blast, but if we don't have reservations already we are too late. Most of the hotels are already booked for next year's event. And almost all of us left coasters can get there in less than 2 days (1 day for most) and the fly in fare is cheap. Just my cheap input of support!!!------------------ Duane 71 Fastback (under resto) 73 Mach 1 IP: 216.26.62.13 |

Maybe a little irony here. The blue 69 Mach 1 CJ on ebay from Salt Lake that Stewart lusted to own has been chosen Best of Show the past two years by the Reno Mustang club. They hold their show the last weekend of June. Reno is okay with me too, I'm not that particular as long as the gathering is west of Denver!! (Steamboat Springs anyone?)Stewie, I haven't spoken to the owner of the Mach recently, so don't know if it's been sold yet. Joyce IP: 152.163.201.184 |

Thanks for the update Joyce...I think.Ked, I saw that, and would normally volunteer myself in a heartbeat, but I'm not sure how busy I'll be so I don't know if I'll be able to take on something that time intensive. I'll know better once the date is picked...and thats if Reno is the choice. Stewart IP: 152.163.201.78 |
