Just the other day my father and I changed the 67'stang over to a 255/50/R16 BFG Drag Radial from a 205/70/R14. Last fall our 60' with the 205's was 2.26. I am hoping that we can lower this into the 1.8's with the new rubber. My question is, on a low budget, how can we get these 60' times into the 1.8's with minor mods, with these drag radials?Modifications Include: Gt-40 345hp FRPP Crate Motor T-5 (Cable Clutch) New 5-leaf springs SSM Lift Bars 4.11 9" Mini Spool (3.89 trac-lok on street) Stock Shocks on front and rear Stock front springs Any advice is appreciated. Thanks Tj

I think I'd:1) Look to see where you can remove any more weight out of the car; 2) Change the front shocks to 90/10s; 3) Change the rear shocks to adjustable Ranchos; 4) Sell off the SSM bars and install a pair of Slide-a-Link CE traction bars (Cal-tracs would work better, but aren't as "friendly" on the street); 5) Weld in a pair of subframe connectors; 6) Replace the front springs with 6-cylinder springs. Just my 2 cents, Ryan

Sounds good but, I would kind of like the car to be street friendly and have some handling characteristics. 6 cyl springs and 90/10 shocks would definatly kill the handling. Maybe those adjustable front shocks with the 50/50 70/30 and 90/10 settings.

On my 65 adding adjustable 90/10 shocks and removing the sway bar 'I leave them on 90/10 setting' didn't hurt the handling at all. But both sure made the front end come up higher and a lot more easy. Also the clamped rear leafs and playing with the rear tire pressure until I got full contact from both rear tires. Lubing the front end, maxing out the front tire pressure. Putting the battery in the truck. All helped a lot too. ------------------ SCOOP oddly obsessed with big scoops on little Mustangs 65 coupe,351w,C4,Big Boss 429 hood scoop,8" 3.40 TracLoc. My Pics

Sure, You want it all. LOL Back when the '66 had a mild 351w it would spank ZO6 Vettes on the strip. Why? They had more power, ran faster MPH's but were limited by a great handling suspension. Sure they were/are geared for 160 mph too, but their downfall on the strip was their compromises. Do not compromise, it's much easier that way. A street/strip car set up for drag racing with only 400+ h.p. will easily defeat a NASCAR stock car on the strip. Fact not fiction, SteveW

And,Those adjustable shocks are crap. You have to take them out of the car to adjust them. And when you do it's guess work whether you have them set on 90-10 or 70-30. It's about an hour project to change the setting, not something you would do at the track. SteveW

They make both coil and non coil over shocks. That have a small dial you turn to the setting you want it set to. ------------------ SCOOP oddly obsessed with big scoops on little Mustangs 65 coupe,351w,C4,Big Boss 429 hood scoop,8" 3.40 TracLoc. My Pics

Dubz the summit shocks are priced right. Just get your car on the road and enjoy it. Then later when you have the money get the better parts. ------------------ SCOOP oddly obsessed with big scoops on little Mustangs 65 coupe,351w,C4,Big Boss 429 hood scoop,8" 3.40 TracLoc. My Pics

Run the tires @ 10 psi. If you can find someone to buy em go for it and switch to MT ET Drag or Street. The Goodrich tires have a stiff sidewall. Good luck getting any info from the Goodrich Drag Radial forum! The MT tires say run inner tubes, this is not nessary so $ for $ MT is better. That's nothing, AFCO wants $350 per shock.....and then there are some electronically controlled shocks that you don't even want to know the price of. Pat Musi and alot of the Pro Street guys run the electronic shocks, they adjust automatically "on the fly".[This message has been edited by CometGT1974 (edited 04-01-2004).]

Dubz the 90/10 will allow the front to raise more easy and lower at a slower rate.------------------ SCOOP oddly obsessed with big scoops on little Mustangs 65 coupe,351w,C4,Big Boss 429 hood scoop,8" 3.40 TracLoc. My Pics
