Alex talked about using a starter off a 5.0 I think.I'm pretty sure he said they were small and high torque starter used from the factory. And you could buy them like at NAPA fot a reasonable price.Does anyone know anything about these? I'm thinking of replacing my org with a small starter to help reduce some heat to it. But I dont want to spend $150 and up for a starter.------------------ SCOOP oddly obsessed with big scoops on little Mustangs 2.26 60'S 14.9 @ 90.86MPH 65 coupe,351w,C4,Big Boss 429 hood scoop,8"3.40 TracLoc,Cragar SS,Black Suede. https://mustangsandmore.com/ubb/Fastymz.html

The mini starter I have on my racecar is a factory Ford unit I got from a parts place. If I remember correctly, it was for a early to mid 90's F-150. However, it did cost around $150 (I think it was $165).

It might be a "factory" starter, but it spins my racemotor over faster than that big old style starter ever dreamed of.

Those starters are now available from Ford motorsport at $256 and change I believe it was. This is a brand new unit. It originally came on a 89 t-bird or cougar and ended up on a 5.0 motor later in 1992 I believe it was. We sell them and you dont have to pay the $256 and change price either ------------------ Tony Denysenko O-P/SA 5302 IHRA Stock Eliminator H-I/FA 3302 NHRA Stock Eliminator MoneyMaker Racing

I got the "truck" starter for my Cleveland too. It's a hugh improvement over the original. Alex says the 5.0L HO starter has higher torque if you need a max effort starter.------------------ Ben Grabber Green '70 Mach I 351C 4V Robbin Egg Blue '79 Fairmont 351C 4V

Tony want kind of price do you guys have on them? Will they work on a 351w with a C4?Also can I just get a rebuilt 5.0 starter from a parts store.I dont need the high torque but the mini starter would be nice. ------------------ SCOOP oddly obsessed with big scoops on little Mustangs 2.26 60'S 14.9 @ 90.86MPH 65 coupe,351w,C4,Big Boss 429 hood scoop,8"3.40 TracLoc,Cragar SS,Black Suede. https://mustangsandmore.com/ubb/Fastymz.html

The way I remember the previous threads, you could get a rebuilt '85 & up 5.0 HO starter for a C4 and it would work but the wiring was different. I am not sure you would get instructions on how to connect to the solenoid of a car with a firewall mounted solenoid. When we bought the mini (and it was ~$150) from Summit, it came with instructions on how to correctily wire it. BTW, where are the solenoids on the '85 & up Fox bodies? Ron,You can go to places liek Autozone and get the mini hi-torque for $160. The pn is IMI106 and will have to be a special order. Another suggestion is go to your local auto salvage yard and get one for a few bucks. The starter should already have the jumper wire for it to work correctly on a Ford with the chebbie style solenoid. To rebuild your old starter would be a pain if it needs brushes. It also probably needs bushings remplaced in the both ends. If you don't have a driver for the bushings, they can be a bear to install properly. I have found over the years that most Fords starters that turn slow (dragging) needs bushings replaced and the rest is okay. But while you have it apart, install a new bendix.

CVR Hi torque mini starter = less than $189.00 for a SBF starter, if it ever fails CVR can rebuild them. I still have my first one after 5 years. it spins a 13:1 BBF alky motor over just fine where the stock starter was in a bind! Call Memphis Performance make sure you ask for the CVR and not the BTE starter. 1-800-626-1828 JS

I forgot to mention CVR will rebuild it if it ever fails, all you pay is shipping. You can't beat that, that's better than autozone. JS

SCOOP...I might know someone who can build/rebuild a starter for ya. He is my best friend's uncle. He lives in AZ, so there would be shipping involved. Let me know if you're interested and I'll contact him. He builds alternators, starters, generators, etc. at home in his spare time and does good work.P.S.-Not trying to steal anyone's thunder. Just thought I could help out a fellow M&Mer

This is the info from Alex I was looking for. "1991-95 5.0 HO starter and a SK-348 Motorcraft (E2PZ 11K162A) conversion kit does the trick and makes the installation a snap" ------------------ SCOOP oddly obsessed with big scoops on little Mustangs 2.26 60'S 14.9 @ 90.86MPH 65 coupe,351w,C4,Big Boss 429 hood scoop,8"3.40 TracLoc,Cragar SS,Black Suede. https://mustangsandmore.com/ubb/Fastymz.html
