Silver State Challenge "Open Road Race" is being held this weekend by Ely, NV.Came through there yesterday and cars are starting to gather.. Pantersas,, Mustangs,, Vipers,, Vets.. Do we have any members that participate in the race.. 90 miles of "Let's Get It On".. It would be fun to participate in the Original Equipment Class.. See how close you can come to averaging 105 mph.. I think the open clas is averaging 190 +.. Here's a link I found.. http://www.silverstateclassic.com/318-hwy-event-description.htm

I plan on running it in next couple years. I am actauly friends with a group that race RX7's in the SSC. They are there right now. They say it's a good time but was scary last year. I guess they laid down new pavment, and the pavement chewed up the tires very quick. Some pretty bad high speed blow-outs caused a few serious wrecks.

Hey Don, our member 'jaazzy' has ran the silver state challenge in his 65 mustang coupe. If I recall correctly, he averaged a gear limited 168mph. Last I heard he was looking for higher gears just for that event. I haven't seen him post here in a long time, but i'm sure he's around somewhere.Erik ------------------ 1966 Ford Mustang 2+2 Mine - Restomod in Progress 1966 Ford Mustang Coupe Dad's - Original Unrestored

Hi Fella's,Yep, I have been working towards the SSC for quite some time. Funny how life gets it he way, loosing my job (twice), moving, buying a house, and all that. Sundance, I must have missed that post about the gears, sorry about that and thanks so much for your offer. I did end up with a set of 2.50's and 2.75's. In the lower speed classes you can basically drive a factory car with a helmet and speed rated tires. Once you crack 115 average things get more expensive. I want to run in the 120 or 125 average class and I will need a roll bar, helmet, minimal fire suite, and harness. NHRA rules give you a pretty good start. ------------------ Jay Kilroy 68' Fastback GT 390 "No such thing as a cam thats too big"
