Finally got to try my car with slicks and ran 10.93 @123.4 The surprising part was the slicks did not improve my 60' times! As a matter of fact, the car left like a pig off the line. Best 60' 1.64 It wasn't bogging, just didn't turn on 'til about 20' out. My old motor ran mid 11's with 1.5 60's! If I get this figured out the car should have a 10.70 in it.------------------

Thanks guys, I'm pretty excited about it! You'd a thought I won the nationals or something! But how can I be sure what's ailing this thing out of the hole? I'm thinking it's the converter, but before I spend the bucks to have it loosened or replaced, I want to be sure. Last year, with the DOT drag radials, (28" tall) these were my best times: 60' 1/8 1/8mph 1/4 1/4mph 1.60 7.068 97.56 11.14 119.9 1.52 7.08 96.6 11.175 119.9 1.61 7.09 97.87 11.109 121.9 1.68 7.12 98.23 11.123 122.5 I don't know what to think about that 1.52, but I remember it jerked the wheels pretty good on that pass. Now last Thursday night, with the Hoosier 29x10's, here's what I ran: 1.63 7.02 99.53 11.000 122.34 1.65 6.99 99.76 10.96 123.33 1.61 6.97 99.83 10.933 122.78 60 foots were bad, yet I picked up in all cases down track. Any suggestions on what to look for?------------------

Do you have adjustable shocks in the rear? If so you might try stiffer extension to do away with excessive weight transfer. We always try to run the stiffest shock possible. It may not mean much but your rollout of your rear tires has gotten longer with the 29 inch tire in comparison to a 28 inch dot tire measure them both and see how much different they are and how they affect your gear ratio. With your old combo the power may come on a little later and you may need more gear to compensate for this. This is just a possibility that I am sure you have already looked at but if not, maybe check it out. ------------------ Ed Heart mods:Trick High flow titanium valve ported & polished Listen close: "tic tic tic" No folks thats not a noisy lifter thats the sound of big flow! 1984 5.0L LX Conv 3600 lbs 13.41 at 101.89 SIR http://ragtopjr.hypermart.net/ http://ragtop-racing.stangnet.com/ http://mbmustangs.tripod.com/index.htm

With the DOT radials, the tires were spinning thru the 60'. With the slicks, I'm sure there is absolutely no wheel spin. But the end result is similar short times. My theory is the spinning is allowing the motor to get into it's power quicker, producing a reasonable 60'. The slicks are making my motor work at a lower RPM that the motor does not like. I think the reason the DOT's are slower on down the track is because they are actually spinning out past the 60'. I remember a "rippling" feeling with these tires like the tires were slipping well into second gear. ------------------
