I am eager to hear the answer too. I never have had a serious leak that wasn't related to me forgetting to put a hose back on. I have heard of a saop an water concotion sprayed around wher you think the leak is and if you get bubbles, its most likely leaking there. Others have said to spray carb cleaner around the area and if the idle picks up then drops back down you found one. The carb cleaner is supped to momentarily stop the leak. I don't know that I trust either method, but I have found none better...------------------ Marcus Fast, Reliable, Cheap.... Pick any TWO of these words. 68 Mustang, still in purgatory. I have heard propane is good to use. I just don't know if the idle gets faster or slower if their is a leak.tedster------------------ Ted Friendswood,Tx. IP: Logged |

Soapy water won't make bubbles, the vacuum will suck it in.Propane works best, the idle speed will increase as it is sucked in. Staring fluid works, but it's messy. A good method to see if you have a vacuum leak at all is to put your hand over the choke plate and block the air. You should be able to stall the engine. ------------------ SteveLaRiviere/Webmaster -- MCA # 47773 [This message has been edited by SteveLaRiviere (edited 09-29-2000).] IP: Logged |

Good old $.77 per can Wal Mart tech 2000 carb cleaner works great. Just spray it on the suspected area with the engine running and 'olla! The RPM should increase dramaticly. I agree, carb cleaner works very well, it doesn't stop the leak necessarily but the flammable liquid entering the intake will change RPMs, same concept for propane.
