I have had a good condition 4-bolt Cleveland block that was dropped from a 72HO in my hands for quite some time and have never had a use for it, until now. I want to start building this block up for my car this winter but I am wondering how much power can it handle? I've read articles where 4-bolt BOSS 302 blocks were dynoed over 600hp, so I would assume it could handle atleast that number, but could it handle more due to that fact that all 5 main caps have 4-bolts unlike the 302 BOSS which only has 3 central 4-bolt main caps and outer 2-bolt main caps? Any info/past experience even with 2-bolt Cleveland blocks would be wonderful. Thanks! Shawn

Welcome to M&M Shawn ! Glad to have you join us as member #709. The 351C 4 bolt block can withstand upwards 900 HP with some major modifications to the oiling system and filling of the water passages. You have a very rare and usable piece there Shawn. Welcome to M&M Shawn I agree with Alex its a pretty stout piece. A well tuned motor with a 2 bolt block will handle 8K+ and some serious horsepower. Alex know of any running superstock? and BTW, you've got mail ------------------ Marcus Fast, Reliable, Cheap.... Pick any TWO of these words. 68 Mustang, still in purgatory. Tex Miller runs a 351C, don't know if it's a 2 or 4 bolt block. I love to see him pull the front of that '72 up at launch.IP: 24.4.252.76 |

There are a few that run the 351C in Superstock. SE Buchannon is one in a SS/GTDA Probe, Joe Threat and Len Schneider from the "left" coast also run them in T-Birds. They all use the later low compression 72-73 combo as the NHRA has factored the 70 and 71 Boss out of competition competitivly. There are many many that run them in stock eliminator. We have one in our stable as a matter of fact. 73 Mach 1 with a low compression 351 HO. It runs in I or J/SA. Politics Steve. Just like they tried to do to me last year only there wasn't a M&M membership around back when the Boss 351 was re-factored with horsepower. The GM and Mopar gang cried when some SS racers began running very fast with the Boss 351. Don Bowels who had the "Coal Digger" Rousch powered Boss 351 car was incredible. NHRA re-factored the engine from 335 HP to 355 HP and thus made it uncompetitive.
