How does removing the front sway bar help when running the quarter and do you remove it completely?

Hey Ted, it should loosen up the front allowing it to travel freely and helping it rise. (Or so I have heard)
Taking it off will help you lose some front end weight too

Ted,
I agree, "what he said" Marcus that is. Also loose the rear sway bar. When we look back, a lot of the "good" stuff we bought is now sitting in the garage. We bought the suspension handling package with big sway bars front and rear & gas shocks, etc.

It comes down to figuring out what you want the car to be before you build it. We started out wanting a nice handling coupe and ended up wanting a 1/4 mile weekend warrior that can still do the daily driver gig. But anyway for the 1/4, loose the sway bars and gas shocks

Ditching the front sway bar will help you load the rear tires on launch and is particularly effective when coupled with a freer set of front struts. I would say 70/30's for the street. I run 90/10's on my strip-only car. Keep in mind that handling will be affected by these changes. Personally, as long as my car makes the turn at the end of the track I am happy, but if you are using your car on the street, you will find that it will "wander" considerably with no sway bar.

From my experience, I would keep the rear sway bar on. It helps keep the housing centered when you launch the car. Urethane bushings will also help keep everything in line when you drop the hammer.

Couldn't you also preload the rear bar to counter act the natural lifting of the pass. side rear?
I know some of the late model guys are having fabulous success using a bar from David Wolfe and wolfecraft racing...

Yes, it is advantageous to pre-load the passenger side rear. I'm not aware of the bars you mentioned, but many use an airbag installed in the coil spring.

Take the front sway bar off comletely. You will save the weight and have greater front end travel. IE, more traction. Ale

now i don't wanna get off on a rant here....
but this business of needing sway bars and working shocks and stuff.... haven't y'all ever driven 1940's and 50's cars for daily usage??
I laugh myself silly when i see folks refer to new car as a "stripper" because i doesn't have air or leather

NORMAL (ie:60's) cars are considered to be "pimpmobiles" if they have power steering and brakes.

Y'all need to drive a stock model T to learn the threshold for necessary motoring equipment.

What'd mean Tom? My "stipper" has leather and a functional electric convertible top! It really makes 'em laugh when I put the top down in the staging lanes!

Boy, this thread is great. A question about front sway bars turns into a discussion of Stippers without air or leather, and a story of a truck that had Heather and eats venison! Cooool!

My P/SA 89 Mustang GT convert. has leather and a working power top also. When it gets real hot, I put the top down on the return road. It really gives the tech officials at the scales a hoot! Alex
