Did the under-dash wiring today on the 65 fastback, what a sh!tty job that is, you have to be a contortionist to get up into it. I am not built for that kind of work, I am 6 foot 4 inch`s tall and a hefty 260 pounds, I hate to admit it but I got stuck. I was just finishing the last of the re-wiring on the harness and shoved my right arm up into the underside of the dash and shifted myself to the left a little bit and that was it, jammed tighter than bourbon street during Mardi Gras. I was on my back and could not move anything from my waist up all I could do was move my legs. Fortunately my buddy was there and helped me get out, but he had to pull the shifter out of the car so I could shift a bit and finally wiggle out. The next time I have to do any wiring under the dash on a mustang, I will 100% refuse to do it. Yes even if I lose a bunch of weight I will still refuse to do it. I feel your pain John At 6'2"/220, I find the under-dash confines of an early Mustang to be no fun at all ------------------ 1965 GT coupe, 333ci aluminum headed/solid cammed stroker, four speed, 3.70:1 9" All Blue Oval, no blue bottle http://mustangsandmore.50megs.com/V8Thumper.html

I wonder if anyone ever got stuck while doing that job alone, and died in there What an embarrassing way to go!

I stuck under the dash pinned between my seat and my steering wheel. My son had to help pull me out.It is alot more easy to work under the dash,if I remove the front seats 1st.------------------ SCOOP oddly obsessed with big scoops on little Mustangs 2.26 60'S 14.9 @ 90.86MPH 65 coupe,351w,C4,Big Boss 429 hood scoop,8"3.40 TracLoc,Cragar SS,Black Suede. https://mustangsandmore.com/ubb/Fastymz.html

I didn't have TOO much trouble, but I'm 6'4"/180. It is a little cramped in there though. I got a nice scratch on the back of my hand from getting it stuck and ripping it out.

Although not a Mustang, I finally gave up and removed the entire dash from the Ranchero to re-wire and re-hose. After some past experiences with running down bad grounds, tracing wires, making repairs, etc, I have now concluded it is much easier to get at and work on the wiring with as much removed as possible. It is hard to get in the mood though when you have to spend more time removing things, then the actual work itself will require once there. It's all part of the ownership responsibilities though, gotta do it......

When I replaced my main harness I found it hard work (but im only 5'10) I think removing the steering wheel would help but I dont have the required puller.

I've always found wiring cars to be easy. But I'm probably one of the shortest ones here, I'm 5'8" and weigh about 150. Hmmm....maybe I should get into the Mustang re-wire business. ------------------ Gary M.- 1970 Mustang Deluxe SportsRoof (daily driver), 1946 Ford pickup, 1947 Ford pickup, 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 Town Vic

Gary you should theres good money in it. Us fat guys,or big guys sorry dont like to get stuck all the time. I'm only 5'11 and 220 I think it's the 220 part that makes me get stuck. ------------------ SCOOP oddly obsessed with big scoops on little Mustangs 2.26 60'S 14.9 @ 90.86MPH 65 coupe,351w,C4,Big Boss 429 hood scoop,8"3.40 TracLoc,Cragar SS,Black Suede. https://mustangsandmore.com/ubb/Fastymz.html

Guys, I just got ahold of a beat up '65 pony, and am in the process of restoration. However, despite my best research I've gotten snagged on the interior dash wiring. Of the books I've got, none show anything in this area! Any info or comments would be appreciated!

I have just finished re-wiring my 66 coupe, I must admit I did remove both front seats, the steering wheel, and the clocks. It was still a pain in the butt, and the scares have almost healed

There is a site that someone posted not to long ago with an excellent wiring diagram. Anyone out here remember? I used to have a link to the diagrams on my hard drive from my webpage. I need to put it back.------------------ "I started with nothing, and I still have most of it left" http://webpages.charter.net/adragon8u/mystang

Have all my wiring out-66 cv. . Will put it all back in when I have the column out and of course, seats and shifter. I built a platform one time that allowed me to lie flat. Worked good. An advantage to taking it out is that it can be worked on in comfort. Have a magnifying reader that is on a pedestal. Having the backside of dash painted white helps a bit, also, when putting it back in. Not liking electrical, purchased the Osborn electrical assembly manual for 66 Mustang. The engineering drawings, in addition to full schematics, makes the job a lot easier.
