so i finally talked to a body guy about fixing the cowl and he said that it can be fixed from the inside. is this at all possible? the price is right but i still not sure about it. is it a cheap fix? or is he just blowing smoke to soak me. by that i mean start by doing it his way and then oops this isn't working i'll have to do it the right way,as in taking the cover off and drilling spot welds and bla bla bla. the other body guys i talked to are geared up already and can't take me till the fall. please make my brain bigger with info.

There is a quick fix with a cowl repair kit, it is easy to do and works great, but the draw back is that it is not a permanent fix. It will only last about 7 to 10 years, the best bet if you go this route is to get up as far into the cowl and surrounding area with Por-15 then put in the repair kit. If your cowls are totally pooched then you have to go the welding route. If the guy you are talking about that said it can be fixed from the inside is charging you more than $100.00 to do it and he is only using the repair kit you are getting ripped. You can do the fix yourself in about 3 to 4 hours max. A full cowl repair is a fairly major undertaking, and only for a keeper, IMHO. But I just wanted to tell you about the biggest bonus of all - it gives you the best view you'll ever have of all that lousy wiring, broken firewall padding, etc. I had this job done at home, so my metal man removed the inner cowl three months before he put it back, allowing me time to restore everything under the dash. But if you take your car to a body shop, you might miss that golden opportunity.

The only problem I had the last time I was up under my dash was it took the Son and Wife to get me back upright and on my feet..anything under the dash is now off limits But I have thought of flipping the Fb on the roof and going fron there..
But seriously that's the way I plan to go heck with those 130+ spot weld..in 8-10 years I'll be dead and someone else can worry obout it sam

he's charging me $1000 cdn. for the two cowls, the side cowl and both front torque boxes. which in my opinion is pretty freakin' good, but the end product is no more water entering the 'baby' without it having sand from the beach included.

I did not have any luck with the cowl repair kits. I bought a plexiglass cover to go over the cowl vents when I drive the car in the rain or when it gets washed. I still end up with a puddle on the drivers floor when I am done.Jonathan
