It seems crane cams are going to be selling a Pertronix style "under the cap" ignition system, looks pretty fab with a rev limiter built in. There is no price set for it yet.

Pertronix is supposed to be sending me an Ignitor II as an upgrade from my broken Ignitor unit. I had to shell out extra money though. I will be interested to see the price of the crane unit when it comes out.

I am having trouble and seem to be getting about 11-12 volts to my coil which is burning my points up, although at times I have measured 6 volts, Its intermittant and is giving me a headache trying to find the problem. The pink resistor wire runs from the ignition switch into a bundle of wires and up into the dash, I lose it before its supposed to join up with the wire that leads to the coil. I cant understand why it would give me almost battery voltage. Anyway if i get my Ignitor II soon it wont matter.

I dont have anything against pertronix (although I do think that points are a pain in the @$$) but I just wanted to make sure everybody knew about the Crane unit so when its on the market they could make an informed buying decision.

I just saw that unit this morning in the latest Popular Hot Rodding.

They have info about it on their web site:

http://www.cranecams.com/ignition/xri.htm

Summit has them listed for $66, but they are under backorder.

I also bypassed my resistor wire. Now I get full volts all the time to the coil.

I like the fact they don't use a shuttlewheel. That's what keeps disintergrating on the Petronix on Mike's car.
