i got in an accident early this morning in my pony on the freeway.had 2 slam on the brakes then lost control and hit an abandoned car on the side of the road.my whole rear end of the car is smashed in.the quarter panels, trunk lid got ripped off and flew across the freeway, tail light panel, wheel wells, trunk floor is smashed up,and my fuel filler neck broke off.and my bumper and valance got wrecked to. i couldnt believe it.my pony was messed up.i was just about to buy new rims-tires and a whole lot of fiberglass for it next week. damn. does anyone know about how much it might cost to reapair all those things. weld in a trunk floor and put in fenders, wells, and gas tank? i do not want to trash my car. especially since i have a freshly rebuilt c4 and 289 in there.all that stuff works still.thankk god. any ideas on prices would be great. i have till wait till 2morrow to cal the insurance but that is all thats on my mind now and im impatient. thanks again.

Sorry to hear of that, that truely stinks! The rear of the car is the most expensive area to fix. Lots of welding involved.

The way you described the damage, it sounds real bad. Your insurance company will most likely total your car. You didn't didn't have it insured for an appraised value, did you?

Sorry, bud!

Sorry to hear that,it sounds real bad.Did you have full covrage on the car.Unless you are a good welder,or have friends that weld. It may turn out to be more easy to get another car thats not running and transfer over the motor and trans and any other part.

SORRY again about the car, thankfully you or any one else was not hurt.

SORRY TO HEAR ALSO. THAT'S A REAL SHAME. IT SOUNDS LIKE A TOTAL TO ME ALSO DEPENDING WHAT KIND OF INSURANCE AND WHAT THE AGREED VALUE OF THE CAR WAS. THE FRAME RAILS MUST BE BENT ALSO WHICH MEANS IT WILL HAVE TO GO ON A FRAME BENCH TO STRAIGHTEN THE UNIBODY. PLUS REPLACING THE FLOOR W/ HOUSES, 1/4 PANEL AND EVERYTHING ELSE IS WOULD GUESSTOMATE $10,000.00 WORTH OF DAMAGE. RAY

65mustang,
Sorry to hear about your car. Sure hope nobody got hurt. I chipped the paint on my car, just a little, pulling golf clubs out of the trunk and almost blew a gasket! I would not pretend to know how you feel right now.
I would have to say that Ray is in the ballpark with the $10,000 est. I replaced the right side rocker panel, right side quarter, back panel and valance on my car doing the work myself. Can't imagine what it would have cost to pay someone.
I also had to put it on a frame rack and pull out the right side from a T-bone. I did this all myself (with some help from the instructor) in a JC autobody class. I then spent many, many hours massaging each panel (all a mess) so I could paint it 66' Candyapple Red and look sweet.
Unless you are a glutton for punishment I would not suggest doing that. You have a lot more damage than I did.
Buy a solid, non running car and put your drive train in it. Probably cheaper, even if you do it yourself, (your time is worth something) and easier.

Just thought I would relay some info on the insurance side. You will probably have big problems in recovering a dollar amount. They will offer you around $1200 for the car which is a salvage rate. The only way to recover your losses is to play the injury game. I would go to the doctor and have him write up some leg, back injuries, etc. You will have to go to therapy for which you will receive around $200 per session when the settlement is completed. Rack up as many sessions as necessary. this is standard practice in the industry and is not illegal. It is the stupid game you have to play in order to recover your losses. By the way, the therapy center will probably have you sign a paper offering them a generous cut out of the $200. I am speaking out of practical experience when some 86 year broad totalled my 64 Ranchero. Keep your car as a donor and find a good rust free body.

Seeing as Stockton is your address you might check with Ron Bramlett at Mustangs Plus. He has roller cars and could no doubt offer you some good advice on what to do. Sorry to hear another old Stang get wrecked.

Unfortunatly your accident sounds familar. I "totaled" my 65 fastback last year. At least that is what the insurance clamed. I had it insured for $6000 (the purchase price) Since the insurance valued the car at $7300 and the estimate to repair was over that, they took out the deductable, paid me the $6000, and gave me the car back. I have spend around $1500 so far on new RR quarter, trunk floors, rear valance, lights, bumpers and all associated parts.
I can understand your plight. I am doing all the work myself even tho I had never done body work or welding before, it is a experience that has been well worth the effort. And just think, I have been able to justify the new compressor, all the air tools and the welder to put it together, and still have some money for the paint!!!
Remember the only part you cannot buy for your car is the top. Everyting else is available.
On the bright side, I had one quote from a body shop that would replace the quarter and everything in the rear and block sand ready for paint. If I bought the materials he would charge $2500 for the labor. It was a good deal, but I wanted to do it myself anyway. Good luck, and I hope the insurance co does you good!!

Being a victim of an ongoing insurance scam at the moment, I'd say this is a BAD idea!

I agree, I'm in the parts business and see people getting in trouble every day. Take what is rightfully yours and move on. Life too short to spend it in prison. When one of my cars got stolen years ago people tried to tell me to get all kind of phony reciepts so I could get more, I didn't and just fought for what was fair. I sleep very well at night now also. RAY

I have a lady I tapped in a 15 mph accident trying to sue me for everything I have, so this is a sore subject for me. The only thing worse than a sleezy lawyer is a sleezy client.

My son has two women suing him when it was 85% their fault. One lawyer dropped them already now they're trying a new one. Just more money for my son to waste to fight it. RAY

Well, that is not totally true. I wouldn't recommend it, but if you need a new roof, you can get one cut off a donor and put it on for around $500.(see link below)
As for your car....I am truely sorry. Keep us posted.
