Hello All,

I'm planning on getting a '66 fastback and I need your opinion.

It's has bright red (almost show quality) paint. No dents and very straight. It has a 289 2bbl and says he adds a 1/4 of a quart of oil every couple months. C4 automatic. Stock rear. There is 1 rip in the entire black upholstry. A little faded btw. New carpet. No power steering. Stock brakes. It comes with Style Steel wheels (14x7).

I'm gonna test drive it this weekend and see how it handles in terms of the suspension. I'm also gonna check the weatherstripping for water leaks and the cowl for leaks. He says it doesn't leak. We'll see.

He wants $8500 for the car. Is it worth it if there are any leaks? or if the suspension is bad? Or is a fastback even worth it at ALL? $8500 is a lot for me to spend but I do want a car I can drive daily not just for cruising and shows.

Regards,

Rockafellz

I dont think it's worth it.But I'm not a fastback guy.Come to Reno there are nice Mustangs right now the paper for 5000to6500 4 to be exact. If you need a an every day car get a coupe they sale for less,I'd say 6000 would get you into a really good one.

If the car is rust free and has as nice a paint job as you described, I think it's worth every penny. Fastbacks are worth more than convertibles, and a lot more than coupes. Run a hose in the cowl and check the front floor afterwards. If it fails this test it could be that the cowl's drain holes are clogged with leaves and debris, but check into it further. As far as rust on a CA car, look at the floors and the rear frame rail in front of the shackles. Good luck,

Rock,
The price that you have listed sounds fair to me. Check the floor pans from under the car before you check the cowl for leaks. If they are new, you know that they were replaced and this points to a cowl leak. The same goes if they are rusted badly. I don't think you are going to have a problem with the cowl if it is a southwestern states Mustang. You can alos go on line to www.nada.com and do a price average check for your area. Just fill in the appropriate information and nada will give you an average selling value for the same types of Mustangs in your area. Hope this helps. Good luck and enjoy the test drive.

Sounds high but is it really? Prices have gone up. Here, a cvt brings more than a fastback but not by a helluva lot. That ol' saying 'Cash talks and BS walks' carries a lot of weight. Seen more than one person waver and then salivate {LOL!} at the sight of a fistful of C's! While prices HAVE gone up, the economy is not a pretty picture for many. A good ol' wouldjatake offer backed by cash, might fly! Good luck!!

If its dark in garage or where ever use a flashlight at look under dash for light also check in front of the rear wheel wells inside for rust
I sold my 65 up here for around $7500 and I was completely done right.
