I have a friend of a friend that would like to trade a Mattress for rebuilding my trans. This guy knows his stuff he's a trained trans guy,and a Ford guy.He worked for Art Carr for 2 years. He's worked on trans for the last 8 years.I need to get my trans rebiult any ways. But you do you guys think of putting in a shift kit and what rebiuld kit would you use. Also I want to get ride of the green dpt valve body in favor of the later body that I can shift from 1to2to3.
What do you guys think and any info on parts would be great.

SCOOP.

Ron,

How much do you get for a mattress?

Better be a pretty expensive one if you want him to use the good parts, and throw in a converter.

Ron,

Maybe $800-1000 with "good" parts for the rebuild (rollerized, hardened input shaft, manual shift valve body, etc) and $700-850 for a top of the line converter, or 250-$450 for a street converter.

For your street car, a thousand or so should fix you up nicely with a street fighter converter and non-roller rebuild.

Good luck buddy

Thanks Steve hopefully the guy will come by next week.$1000 for a Mattress set is easy to spend.

One more thing Steve, how about his costs on parts. He manages a local trans shop.So I'll know what cost for cost would minus labor.Sorry I will not ask any more after this one.At least about the trans that is.

His cost on the parts will probably be under $300 + the converter.
Good luck Ron,

Here's the deal we made.He got his Mattress set.And he'll do the trans new valve body for manuale or auto shift. He's going to change the 24 spline to the 26 spline and change the green dot to a newer system.Bear with me I dont understand all the parts. He already ordered everything, but the valve body.He said he's going to put in a 5or6 disk system in instead of the 3 thats in there now.He said it will shift hard and fast. The convertor he has a new one he'll include that stalls at 1800to2200rpm.He said its about $1000 job.Plus he's giving me a new trans mount and trans cooler. And he's doing all the R&R.I'm out about $575 at my cost.So what do you guys think.

Thanks Ron
