Anybody going to the Silver springs FL show in Jan.? Iv'e never been and read it is or claims to be the biggest gathering of Mustangs, Fords and Shelby's on the east coast. Getting ready to call for details but wanted to hear from others here that have been there first hand to hear what they thought of the show. Im gearing up to have my car ready for entry in the modified class. I was also wondering if they had security watching the cars during this two day event if left on the grounds over night.

Gary, I have heard that this is one great show. Rick Schmidt, of NPD, has a big hand in this show. Go if you can. You will be happy that you did. You can also come on up to Pensacola in March for our MCA Show. We would be more than glad to have another M&M member join us. Details on this show are posted in the March 2002 section in the Upcomming Show's & Event's Forum. Gary, the car show is held inside the park, and the entire park is swept and secured each night. The judging is all people's-choice, and I only give one award per class. That accomplishes two things. When you haul down one of only 20-or-so available awards at a 800-900 car show, you've really WON something to be proud of, something that actually gives your car a bit of provinance. Maybe it's me, but when I go to a show and there's 150 cars and 200 plaques laying on the table, I walk away going "gee, I'm so honored, so proud...this will be another truly meaningless addition to my pile of other dusty meaningless obligatory trophies. I'm so glad that 15 bucks of my $20 entry fee went to this laser-etched hunk of lexan, rather than to the children's charity this show was supposed to raise money for". Anyways, that's my rant. Oh yeah, the SECOND thing the small amount of awards accomplishes is that it opens the show up to a much more "community" atmosphere. Everyone simply chills out, relaxes, and enjoys the company and the cars. Hope you can make it. I've got fliers in the mail right now to all last years attendees, and you can download and print the flier from our website, as well as print a list of hotels in the area (listed in order of proximity).

Yes,it is an excellant show, super nice grounds. If you are a minute late after registration they wont let you in with your car.NPD gives 10% discount that day for entrants, and their store is right down the street.

Understand that Silver Springs is VERY sensitive to cars moving around inside their park after they've opened their gates to the public. You can't have cars milling in all through the morning while elderly & handicapped people, and young children are wandering freely around in the park, invisible in your mirrors and blind spots. One law suit from a kid running out in front of a car coming in late after the park has opened for business, and, goodbye Silver Springs Mustang & Ford Roundup. So, we've come up with a plan this year. First off, GET THERE ON TIME, it's not hard to do. Second, obviously there are folks who will have mechanical trouble along the way or who knows what else. Last year we had a knock-out '66 GT350H show up a bit past 10:00 due to mechanical difficulties, so I made the decision that we could PUSH the car in past the gate, and we staged it only couple hundred feet into the park. That got the car in, safely. So this year I've gotten Silver Springs to agree to a small area right at the entrance to the show for late arrivals. You won't be down in the heart of the show (the mosh pit), but you'll be in rather than out. Despite its remote location, the GT350H still got "best Shelby" last year, so its not like an exile. Of course this small stretch of space can only probably hold a couple dozen cars, so we are still screaming at the top of our lungs "please, do not be late!".

I am glad to hear about the new area. The 350H which you speak of was broken down on the highway enroute to the show.I stopped to assist him which caused me to be late, but still 60 minutes before his arrival. As a result, I was denied entrance.Only after 3 other late arrivals (which drove into the park) was I allowed to sneak in.Some drive great distances.Factually, he was pushed in becouse it would not run.

It was a bit of a cluster you-know-what because Silver Springs head marketing guy had been at the gate being a stickler, then he left two employee/kids at the gate who were utterly useless. I happened to step up as the GT350H was being told to stay out. Anyways, this year we should be o.k.. Folks who have real long distances to cover ought to invest in a room on Friday night either in town or within 20-30 miles just to be safe.

From my point of view, being denied entrance by being late, and then seeing the very cause parked inside, while I am outside, was agravating.

Of course it was, that's very understandable, and you have every right to be angry about how sloppily and unfairly the gate was managed after 10:00. I just stumbled into the middle of a situation by coincidence, and did what I could at the time. Like I said, I should have this issue resolved for next year. But I also cannot stress enough that there's a point, after the area that I've set aside for late arrivals fills, that Silver Springs will again adopt a very strict policy. And I have no right to tell them what to do regarding tardy arrivals, I'm lucky I get this show pulled off from year to year as it is anyways. It's taken alot of diplomatic negotiation and rear-end kissing to keep this show a FREE deal (for the participants, not NPD obviously!!). I'm in no position to make demands, no position to tell them what to do when a group arrives due to ANY reason, no matter how hard-luck. We're doing everything we can to accomodate and balance everyone's needs. But we've got to hold the line at some point, or we'll have people sliding in at all hours of the day saying "Awe, c'mon, give me a break, you let the guy 5 minutes before me in", at which point Silver Springs could say "enough is enough, next year, 10:00 AM is the cutoff, period, and that is final". I don't want it to get to that point. That is why I've been repeating this and beating the drum on it. Prevention, so everybody is smiling on Saturday.

Steve, Honestly, I'm not 100% up on all the complexities of the 70 hood stripes. Every time I see questions about the white-bordered engine numbers, or the contours behind the shaker, and the number placement, I always think to myself "I really need to figure all that stuff out and then actually RETAIN it upstairs". Never have gotten around to it. I'll start asking around.

Thanks, Rick. Maybe that's what it is; white engine displacement with black stripes.
