I getting lazy, so before I go research this, can anyone explain the different Mach 1 hood stripes?I know the difference between shaker and Cobra Jet scoop stripes, {The shaker stripe surrounds the rear of the scoop and doesn't go all the way back, while the Cobra Jet scoop stripe goes all the way to the end of the hood.} But what are the 'Dearborn style' stripes? Does it have to do with where the engine displacement goes? Some seem to be centered with the scoop while some are forward of it. ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 M code 351C 4V/FMX/3.25 open '72 Mustang Sprint Coupe 351C 4V/FMX/4.30 Trac Lok '94 F-150 XL 5.8L/E4OD/3.55 Limited Slip '97 Probe GTS 2.5L DOHC Be American, Drive American! Steve, I`ve never heard of Dearborn stripes. I do know that my 3 70 Mach 1`s that were built in Dearborn & San Jose, both had the 351 or 428 decals centered beside the scoop . 1 351 shaker, 1 351 standard scoop, & 1 428 shaker. I have seen a couple of non shaker cars with the 351 decal too far foreward, but I attribute that to uninformed paint shops (the same shops that put the 65-68 running horses on facing the wrong way, or in the wrong posistion) Also, the 351 & 428 decals were available in solid black or black with a white border. Both my 351C Mustangs were black with white, while my 428 Mach1 was solid black. Supposedly some cars had white engine cid decals, although I personally have never seen them on a car. My cars were Grabber Orange, Grabber Green,& Pastel blue, maybe a darker color would use the white decals.

I attributed the stripes with the too far forward engine displacemnet as the result of not enought research. But the 'Dearborn style' stripes has me wondering. An example of where I've seen that was in the National Parts Depot catalog. I'll fire an email to Rick at NPD if he doesn't see this in a day or two. ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 M code 351C 4V/FMX/3.25 open '72 Mustang Sprint Coupe 351C 4V/FMX/4.30 Trac Lok '94 F-150 XL 5.8L/E4OD/3.55 Limited Slip '97 Probe GTS 2.5L DOHC Be American, Drive American!

Steve, The "Dearborn Stripe" is the stencil manufacturers caveat that the dimensions were taken from an original Dearborn built car. It was recognized that the different assembly plants had different dimensions, radiuses however slight. A case could also be made that striping within the same plant changed slightly depending on the person working the line.

I found on the net the dimensions and the only difference i saw was that the non functional hood scoop on the 70 mach goes all the way to the end of the hood. The shaker hood stripe stops and curves back around behind the scoop....5/8" before reaching the end of the hood. I saw in the NPD catalog that the stencil kit says that dearborn stripes differ from other plants.

The 'Dearborn' stripe referred to Machs with the non-shaker scoop {Cobra Jet scoop} and on those the stripe goes over the cowl panel all the way to the windshield. On my San Jose built car {and I think the Metuchen NJ Machs too}, the stripe stops at the end of the hood, and doesn't run over the cowl panel. All the shaker cars are stiped the same; the stripe runs around the back as you described. ------------------ All Fords since 1977!
