I hear a lot of hype about them. There are a number of them advertised and they all make claims about horsepower gains. A friend suggested that I get one for my stang that has a built 5.0.

They definitely work at high rpm. 10-15 horsepower for $50-100 isn't that bad a deal.

Hey man, they're cheap, and a 5.0 version can be had for cheaper than most... Go for it!

I used a Boss 302 unit, worked great, got it new at a swap meet for $30, You can get the studs from any Ford dealer.

I gotta quite reading these things, now I think i should get a windage tray It would be alot cheaper if I kept the blinders on!!
And I just promised my wife, no more parts
for a while. I could sent it to my buddys house.

Amen, Bill. I hear ya... I'm thinking: "Hmm... with the money I saved by going with a custom grind hydraulic cam over a solid lifter (woulda had to change springs and lifters), I could afford that. And an extra 15-20hp is nice."

Oh, and a question. How and why do they work/add power? I assume it has something to do with reduced friction, but that's just a guess. I really don't know. /me is young and doesn't know anything, right blue hairs?

The higher you rev the more benefit is derived - crankshaft drag is reduced and oil aeration (foaming) is reduced. Actually, a "windage tray" in the lifter gallery to keep
hot oil off of the bottom of the intake manifold is a good idea, too, if you're going for ultimate BHP.
