Got a friend trying to convert a 66 green dot tranny to the later 3-2-1 shift pattern. 1. Does he need a later valve body to do this or is this just a shift kit change? 2. If a new valve body is needed, will any '67 up normal body work or does it have to be a pre-'70 body? What's the difference? ------------------ Jack Collins '66 coupe 250/AOD http://home.cfl.rr.com/mustangsix IP: 140.153.199.2 |

All he needs is a 67-69 C-4 valve body. It is a bolt in swap. The passages are different as they changed the cases in 1970. Alex------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator Fleet of FoMoCo's too long to list! http://superstockers.homestead.com/week.html IP: 205.188.198.31 |

Alex, Do you need a later model shifter? Someone told me that the detentes (spelling?) are different from a green dot to a 1-2-3 shift pattern. Is that true, or can I use my stock '65 shifter.IP: 24.95.160.70 |

You can use your stock shifter. The detents will not be positive locking as they would be with the 67 and up shifter, but it will work and the P-R-N-D-2-1 will line up. Why are you changing the valve body anyway? Is it because you cannot get second gear to hold past 5000 RPM?
