albark,

Put a late model 5.0 roller motor in it (88-93), as long as the original is mia!

Depending on your budget, you can't go wrong with all the "crate" motors offered by Ford and some of the independents. Ford has come out with a killer stroked 351W (392 ci) that has already been dyno'd at over 450 flywheel horsepower. The price is around 6300 bucks and believe me, unless you own a machine shop or have access to one, you can't build that much horsepower for that kind of money. Ford offers the 351 and the 302 in varying configurations, again depending on your budget and how much horsepower you want. Places like Coast High Performance also offers everything from stroker kits to short blocks and complete engine assemblies. Pick up a Motorsport catalog at your local Ford dealer and some of the 5.0 Mustang magazines that are on the market to see what is available.

Crate motor YES! Best bang for the buck. Less fun than building your own, but good results for the money. Alex

Amen to the 5.0 advise. I have a 65 GT with an Acode MIA. Great performance with my 89 roller motor, b303 cam, etc., etc. It was as cheap or cheaper than looking for an original fossil and going through the drill!
