So, seeing that I spent 5K rebuilding my 390 and I might as well not throw away all the parts. (Edelbrock heads and manifold to name a couple)

How much should I expect to pay for a decent 454 FE short block? (427 block 428 crank)

Hell how much should I spend on just a 427 block? (Please note we are NOT talking about some vintage side-olier, I am not made of money) I can get the rest of the parts and put it together myself.

427 blocks with repaired windows are fetching in excess of $1000 Jay. A well done 454 short motor by a competent builder will run you $7500 or better. Keep the 390 project going. Alex

I am starting to think that these FE guys are on crack!! Some guy wanted $2250 for a 427 top oiler!! I can buy a 460 SVO block for $300 less and it will take a bore up to 4.625!

Supply and demand, my friend!

You're comparing a motor currently in production with a motor that hasn't been produced since '67 or so.

I just want the cubes! The only requirment is that the motor says FORD on it. HP and torque are the same no matter how you get it.

I have seen the John Kasse stuff, UNREAL!! What kind of transmission do you put behind 800 cubes? Just direct drive with a clutch?

I did find a 427 side oiler std bore ready to go for $1750. Thats still kind of painful but with it I could probably throw together a short block for around $4000 and then move my heads and manifold over to it. It would be $2000 cheaper than a new 514 crate and I wouldn't need a new tranny, cross member and so on.

Do you see the sickness creeping in! How I can justify spending $4K so I don't HAVE to spend $6K.
