Hello. Is there a difference in a manual flywheel and an automatic flywheel?? And are there any problems with swapping a 66 289 into a 67 with an I6?? The fly wheel is for the 289 that i am hoping on putting in this summer. One last question, does anybody know what the name was for the orange on a 69 boss 302 that looked like cheby hugger orange?? Thanks for any and all replies.

The manual flywheel has a machined surface for the clutch to grab, and is quite heavy.

The automatic flexplate is just sheetmetal with a ring gear for the torque converter to bolt up to.

I think the color you're referring to is 'Grabber Orange.'

There was two "oranges" on '69-'70 Boss 302's. The "red-orange" was Calypso Coral and the "schoolbus-yellow with attitude" was Grabber Orange. (I can't remember what the cheb color hugger-orange looked like.)

Actually I have always considered Calypso Coral to be very close to 65 Mustang "Poppy Red" myself. Anybody else feel that way? Alex

I believe Calypso Coral was also called Competition Orange at times.

Best bet is a wrecking yard. It is the same flywheel as a 240 I6 full size car or light truck, or any early V-8 FoMoCo. They usually run about $25 to $50 in good shape. Alex

Kit,
You won't believe this but I walked into an Autozone parts store and just for grins asked if he had a flywheel for my 69 automatic. Expecting him to say are you kidding but he brought it out knocked the dust off of it and I walked out shocked!

Calypso Coral and Poppy Red are the same paint code, as is Mercury's Performance Orange. Grabber Orange is lighter than Calypso Coral. Grabber Yellow is a schoolbus type color.
My 1970 Maverick is Vermilion (1 l)(NOT Thanks Vermillion) and Vermilion is also the same paint code as Poppy Red, Calyso Coral, and Performance Orange.
