Ok guys put on the thinking caps. I am looking for donor cars to give up a 428 short block for my Mustang. I will just bolt on all the Edelbrock parts off of my 390 for an extra 38 cubes. What cars/trucks should I look for these in? I would love to find a 427 but I'll take what I can get.

I can't really confirm this BUT, when I first moved to Lubbock (cotton is king here) I was
told that it was fairly common to find 428 engines being used to drive water well pumps.
I don't know if they were industrial motors or just converted auto engines. Curious?

427 industrial engines were not great for using as is...the block crank and rods are OK tho.
the 428 is only in 66 and 67 T-Birds and 66-68 FullSize cars 68-70 CobraJet cars and 69 Police Interceptor full size

Is this true, this guy I dealt with in Winona a few years ago told me you can take a 428 crank, put it in a 390 block and get a 410ci like used in the early 60's Galaxie? I mean this guy had 2 original 66 427 Fairlanes so I took it he knew what he was talking about.

410 was just in 66 and 67 Mercury full size if you get a 428 crank it makes the same thing as this...nothing wrong with a 390,the gain may not be worthwhile.

FYI, Tomp.....428 was also available in full size Mercurys in 1966 and 1967. HP S-55 models and PI vehicles. Steve Macgerret drove a 428 Merc on Hawai 50! lol Alex
