Dropping a 351 W into the Pony this winter:
30 over '88 truck motor, Fed Mogul flat tops, TFS heads Crane rollers a Comp Extreme energy cam ( Not decided on the 496 to 500 lift or the 500 to 512. 355 8" Lim Slip, DUI Distributor, hedman headers, dyno max race magnum muffs, an E-brock 750 with a Weiand Stealth ot E Brock Perf RPM intake. Tricked up C4 with a a 1600 to 1800 stall. etc etc.
#1 Know I need a front sump oil pan, pump and pick up, and a bigger intake than the 302.
The car has Power Steering and power disc fronts and A/C which I removed.
Do I need 351 alternator and P/S pump brackets because of the increased deck height and if so....where can I get them or must I pick them from the boneyard.
Any other hints, suggestions or problems that may arise would be appreciated. Not much of a mechanic...just an old guy in a mid life crisis.
I'm bolting on most of the 302 accessories as they are only 2 years old....Heads, Hi Vol water pump, E Brock street fuel pump and the Headers carry the same Hedman Part # for the 302 as well as the 351.
Thanks: Eddie D

Welcome to M&M, Eddie!

My guess is that you will need the 351W brackets, since the bolt holes on the heads move up because of the taller deck. I'll see if I can verify this, or hopefully someone who has walked this path can educate the both of us.

I take it you are using the v-belt as opposed to the serpentine belts, right?

Ah, yes, now that you mention it I remember those little brackets behind the alternator, Tom.

The 351 in my 69 MACH1 has a cast iron bracket that bolts to the head for the upper alt bolt to attach to. This bracket doesn't fit the late model heads real good, needs to be modified slightly to make it work. I found this out when I put the World Products heads on my car. The A/C brackets are different for a 302 and a 351. I cannot find anything on the PS brackets, but my PS connects to the A/C Bracket, so you will probably need to find the brackets from a 351 with out A/C.
