My dads 79 Ford F350 4x4 van 460 C6 AUTO.It has a model 205 tranfer case that started leaking like crazy.I think it's the front seal.How hard is this to change.What kind of tools do you need,and can a guy like me do it myself.Or would I be better off letting someone else do it?

Thanks,
Ron{SCOOP}

If I rememebr right, that is a cast iron case? If it is, it is quite heavy, and I wouldn't remove it without a tranny jack.

Other than that, the seal isn't really all that hard to replace.

The seal isn't hard to replace. You'll just need the right socket and a puller. Alot of the times the yoke will have a groove worn in it. A new seal will still leak. So look at the yoke,if it has a groove,a machine shop can sleeve it,or you can replace it. You should be able to do it in the van. It is a cast iron case. Very heavy. is that a Quigley conversion?

Yes it's a cast case,Mike it's a Pathfinder conversion.Really cool van,since my dad got disabled it's really gone to pot.I hope to help him get it back together.
I have a friend thats a trans guy,I went buy and talked him.He said if it needs nothing else but the seal,he'll do it for $100.My dad said we well just use him.
Thanks for the help.
