Over the winter I am hoping to get some 4.10's or 4.30's in my mustang. That means I will have 3.73's coming out of it. I would love to throw these in my 97 f150 4.2 6cyl 5speed truck. I know these weren't an option so how hard is it to get the speedo right, and do I even have an 8.8 in the truck? Thanks John

Don't you have to get into the computer to change the speedo on a newer truck? What do you have for gears presently? The rear is an 8.8" . If you are in the 3.50 ratio now,I don't think you would notice much of a gain in performance.

Truck has 3.08's now. What I have been told is there is a sensor that reads the wheel speed and a speedo gear till middle of 98. I am just trying to verify this is true. 3.55 were an option for those years. Why buy new when you already have something that can go in, unless it is too big of a hassle.

The owner's manual on my '94 says Ford will recalibrate the computer for tire size and axle ratio changes for free for 6 times, IIRC.

I had the 3.08's taken out of my 98 f150 and 3.73's put in. My speedo is off. It is a gear just like the old tranny's have. All I need to do is run by a mustang shop and pick up the new one. This is the info the ford mechanic that did it told me. Right now, with that gear change the mph is off by 8.
