ok Scott, this is for you Lets talk about your Small Ford. I'll start. Currently I am preparing to go to the dragstrip on Friday, but have had a lot of problems on the way. I experienced a really bad vibration, fixed it with new u-joints yesterday. Then I broke off one of my traction-bar snubbers practicing launches. The good news is the car is running well and as long as nothing else goes wrong I should be able to break into the 13s on the 29th. ------------------ -Charlie Ping 1970 Maverick Grabber -1987 5.0L B303 roller cam/rockers -1968 Mustang Toploader -1977 Lincoln Versailles 9 inch w/discs -1980 Granada Front Discs www.MAVERICKGRABBER.com

My Mav. is on the road in stock mode right now! Its in primer and needs a few more small dings fixed! I started working on the interior now, yesterday I dyed the dash black tonite Im working on the inner plastic fenders I.E. putting them in. I have to go to the junkyard some night this week to pickup the bucket seats! out of a 72 grabber! Then sometime in all of this I want to start really stripping the Comit Of its driveline soon but my kids car keeps taking up my time! I didn't want to say to [M] word with Scott reading this! And make him board again!! I think I'm going to put the rear in first then the front springs and disk brakes then the motor and tranny ! I kinda want to wait to paint it till the motor is done but I don't want to wait till its cold then paint it? And I have a guy ready to paint it very reasonable!

well, AOD is set right, its driveable, just not legal. I have to get my lazy but over to the local exhaust guys and get my pipe stretched a bit to fit over my collector. after that, a bit of tweaking on my shifter and she's set. if my new job comes through I'll be buying my wife a vehicle and building my engine soon. I really am beginning to think its not the stock cam tho... kind of unstable power below 2000rpms, does good above that... doesn't cam that hard tho... I dunno...

Scott : you will like the 350's Any higher is to much gear for an everyday car IMOP.74merc Are you running a Holley carb? If so maybe your power valve is malfuctioning? Is it hard to keep idleing?

I'd wondered about the power valve, I may just rebuild it again... just getting tired of it... when it runs, it runs great, but this is a second hand abused POS... secondary plate has leaked ever since I got it, but I think its just a poor gasket... I disable the secondaries most of the time...

Holley sells a rebuild kit that has blue reusable gaskets! in it and a few other nice goodies! It costs about 30 bucks but it might help your leaking problem?

I'll probably get that one. local parts store is charging $38 for this one, sold me the wrong kit the first time... no wonder it didn't work right then, its a miracle it ran at all...

I don't remember what they called it but it was in a black box with gold lettering? It might have been called a pro kit? My kid bought it at Adavanced Auto parts.[This message has been edited by 69maverick (edited 06-27-2001).]

Yeah the Holley kits are nice but I don't think the base gasket is reusable or blue, the bowl and metering block gaskets are though and they are great. (Correct me if I'm wrong).Update::: I started doing one wheel burnouts yesterday. No problem, yesterday I yanked my diff chunk and I am currently waiting on parts to rebuild my differential TL. With any luck they should be here by tomorrow. While I have the car apart- I got two new front tires I installed my 90-10 front shocks I installed a new distributor I installed a new ignition box (no more whine!) I put in fresh NGKs New cap & rotor Changed oil & tranny fluid Will be changing rear diff fluid (obviously) Will be installing new Tach & Speedo & fuel gauge Got new rubber snubbers for my traction bars Repacked front wheel bearings It'll be another long night tomorrow night but the Maverick will be in shape for the track by Friday

90-10 drag shocks, as I am going to the track tomorrow night. They have 90% effort down and 10% effort up. Great for the track as you bring the nose up quick and it stays there, helping weight transfer.Bad for the street since under acceleration you have no weight on the front tires and can't steer I run a 85 Mustang Duraspark distributor which triggers a Holley Annihilator ignition system. I bought it mainly for the rev limiter after I turned it up to 7100 and blew my headgaskets ------------------ -Charlie Ping 1970 Maverick Grabber -1987 5.0L B303 roller cam/rockers -1968 Mustang Toploader -1977 Lincoln Versailles 9 inch w/discs -1980 Granada Front Discs www.MAVERICKGRABBER.com

Probably the best would be a 1985 Bronco 351W HO (with the 4V holley)It comes with the cast gear so no roller cams though....

Can't you just have them order one for the '85 Bronco?? Or are you trying to get a deal?74 is the middle of the smog era and I wouldn't like the advance curve on that dist but it would definitely work. Truck engines had basically no smog or MPG issues in the mid-80s

I dunno, mine may have been altered, but I have a damn good curve... just about 28* by 2200, it'll pull a little more, but it gets kinda windy in there, kinda hard to keep your eyes on the little marks while you're contacts are being blown out.

That sucks, maybe you should scout the junkyards. Try a real parts store like Carquest or NAPA first though. Price Ford's reman too, it might be cheaper than you think.

not sleeping, workin. Its beginning to look like I'm going to need to tear it down AGAIN to fix my overheating problem. I'm going to check and see if the locals can flush the system out good, but it may just be easier to throw together one of my shortblocks...

not bad, I don't have any symptoms of overheating, but my guage sits at 215 most of the time, goes to 230 and stays there on long trips. check my post in the 69-73 Mustang forums, I post general tech stuff there more often, there's alot more traffic.

First I would put real thermometer right in the water and see what it really is! Or is the gage your looking at an electric gage? if so I would get a old style real gage and take out the old sender and stick it in there and see what it says!

Charlie What Kind and size tires are you using? Also My front end feels tight, but it seems to hammer pretty hard over bumps yet it rides like a Caddy on a nice road? Can the springs be that wasted? It seems to sit at the right hight! The only thing not new is the lower arms ! There about 3 years old.

My car handles the same way, nice over smooth roads but hit a few bumps and it will rattle you a little. I like it that way. Its nice and tight. I run 225-60-15s in front and 255-60-15s in rear. The rears are taller than the fronts as well as wider. I like the look but I really wish American Racing wheels made 16" Torq-Thrust 'D's because I'd put 16s in the rear. No scrubbing problems.

I was thinking of going to a heavier spring and a lighter shock? The springs in it are the ones for a IL6 but when I put in the V8 I was going to try the 600lb springs but after some reading they might be a bit harsh? Maybe the 420s from a Stang might be more in order?
