Years ago my Father purchased a car which they call as a Ford Comet '65 from a guy who work in New Mexico. That guy was a good cook years back and his boss was so impressed that this car was his gift. What puzzles me is that I didn't find a picture of it in the net or from any auto-classic-clubs or organizations. What I find mostly are Mercury Comets and Ford Meteors which most likely resemble it. Did I get the correct model name? Can you direct me to a site or show me a photo of a similar model ? I have a picture of it too if somebody is interested to see. We have just did a good restoration work on it. I appreciate any responses that I will get.

Cesacb, your car looks like a 1964 Mercury Comet when comparing it to what was sold here in the states. Alex, I'm guessing you have AOL
Its pretty simple for me, I just upload the files from my 'puter to geocities, then use the UBB code for IMG to display them. I'd suggest getting a geocities account. Just go to geocities.com and register, then use the fast upload to upload your files. You can use file manager to view whats up there, and get your URLS.

yeah thats a 64 model here.... i know in Australia they seem to use the last years US models as current.Export RHD versions were built in Canada. As for the Ford Comet name, a typo? but possibly legit since an earlier Comet is not a Ford or a Mercury brand.in 1960 when the Comet came out it was just a "Comet" it was originally intended to be Edsels small car, but the Edsel brand was killed off before the car was ready to sell. In Jeopardy terms... Trivia for $1000, Alex

I don't think 'Ford Comet' is a typo, since it is an export Ford and there is no such thing as Mercury outside the US. Check out my post in the Cougar Forum... 'What's wrong with this picture?'

They're neat looking cars, I like the fiberglass hoods with the dual snorkels.. They look really tough. I found this picture at http://www.critesrestoration.com/comet.htm

INTERESTING INFO!!! I scoffed this off that e-group... TomSubject: Re: Re: Mercury K Code Fred, great job. Most people are very confused about the 64/65 HiPo (271hp 289) Comets but you nailed most of the correct info. The HiPo engine was available in both years and you are correct about the VIN designation. There was none to determine an actual HiPo engine. You had to have the actual build sheet to verify you have a HiPo car. There are some very good tell-tale signs to look for such as a bolt-in export brace instead of the normal welded in shock tower braces, 3" driveshaft, 9" rear, 14x6 wheels, heavy duty sway bar, among some other odds and ends. I have a copy of the original Lincoln - Mercury Service Bulletin dated 10-4-63 that announces the availability of the engine package. It lists all the unique parts by part number for this car and tells it was available in any 64 model except the convertible and station wagon. I currently own one of the original 65 HiPo cars and one of the additional signs on the 65 model is a 5 digit DSO designation on the door tag which was to denote the car was a special order. Interesting thing on the HiPo Comets is that they used the stock 289 exhaust manifolds instead of the Fairlane/Mustang cast iron HiPo exhaust manifolds because the narrower Comet/Falcon engine compartment would not allow them to be used. They even retained the standard single exhaust (although the 65 muffler is unique the the HiPo option) instead of opting for duals. Hope this sheds a little more light, Jerry
