I have a 68 XR7 with a maroon leather/vinyl interior. Unfortunately, it has seen better days and it is time to renew it. Who would you recommend to source a top quality leather/vinyl interior from?

I appreciate your help.

Welcome to M&M.

Sorry about missing yoru question. Although it's not much of an excuse, here's the reason. When you posted that, we were without power for a total of 4 days, and when we got our power back, or preferences are set to only go back 2 days. Sorry about that.

what kid said...

dang!!!!
sorry about that!!

we had no juice for a number of days from the ice storm and when we finally got logged on the preferences were past the two day list....

anyways.....

first of all...

WELCOME to M&M!!

steves suggestion of johns classic cougars is a good one. i have purchased from them on several occasions and will again in the future (count on it!).

although, let me offer this as well:

when it was time for my drivers seat to be reupholstered (in the 67DGS), i didnt even consider buying from a vendor, i simply called the local auto-upholstery guys and checked on prices....granted my seats are NOT leather but if they were, i feel confident the shop i used definately has the talent to stitch leather....

anyways... i found a local guy who concentrates only on auto interiors and he did a lovely job for me....

he kept the original seat-panels on the back of the seats and most importantly, he incorporated the "braid" trim in the seat-backs into the new vinyl. He completely replicated the stitch patterns and did an awesome job!

he said it was near impossible to get the trim pieces and i am glad he was thorough enough to discuss it because i would have simply 'assumed' he could replicate them!

so..... if you find an individual shop to do the work, make certain you ask about incorporating back into the new covers, all of the un-obtainium parts of the original seats!

good luck with the search! i was quite lucky in that the guy who did my work also re-stitched the failing threads in my sun-visors at no additional cost.... he even hand-delivered them to me at the office and installed them in the parking lot! not to mention the repair on the passenger arm rest.... heh heh.... the guy i was dating at the time swore the only reason i got such good service is because the businessman wanted a date.... heh heh.... i never did pursue that angle.... hhhhhhmmmmmm......
