I am the proud new owner of a '67 cougar. My problem is that I don't have much experience working with engines, so I don't know what I've got. I was told: Its a 302 w/ 351 Heads.
Here's what I can see: Holley dominator series intake, Holley 4 barrel 750 carb, dual hi-flow exhaust, c4 automatic transmission.
I was also told that the engine had been "rebuilt", but that after getting the engine running, the transmission was pulled and then put back together such that the flexplate/flywheel was bent. The engine is pretty clean, but not steamed or painted. The engine oil is very clear when pulled from dipstick - synthetic i guess?
What do I have? when they swapped for 351 heads did they have to swap cam/pistons/rods etc? Did swapping the heads change the compression? 10.5:1??? What would they have had to have done to install the 351 heads. Should i be able to tell what type of heads they are? how? i'm assuming they are 351c or 351w heads - they are not a brand new set of heads.
I am about to pull the transmission to check out this flexplate - i'm worried it may not be as simple as swapping the flexplate.
Thanks for any input any of you might have. Whoohoo! my first V-8 muscle car (if i can just get it to run)
