I want to store my '69 and do some work on it because i cant drive and work on it at the same time, obviously. So I want to get a fox mustang but I want to get my money's worth so I want to know which years came with the most Ba**s, and how hard would it be to find them? Is there anywhere i can check this out? A buddy of mine has gone through an '88 and an '89...they seem to be a lot stronger than my other buddies '93, all GT. What would be good? Thanx

i've been more than happy with my '89. i LOVE the 5.0's .....so, coming from me, get a 89 this is an excellent page. you can compare then year to year so you can decide on which one you want.... http://www.mustanggt.org/89gt.htm but like i've always said, fishtail will most likely have way more info than me ------------------ Max -1989 Mustang GT (MaxTang) 225/50R15 tires BBK Strut Brace Member 1,861 [This message has been edited by Boss302 (edited 09-23-2002).]

Actually you can't really go wrong with any of them. Only thing with the 86's are the smaller TB's and the less than perfect heads. Not to mention the interior/exterior differences. But that's a matter of personal taste more than any other. Once you get into the 87-93 bracket, they are all fairly similar. 89 was the first year of MAF cars(non-cali) and the last year of tilt wheel(and incedeintly; lock released fuel doors and courtesy lights on the floor). 90 and up have airbags, and lowback seats but lack the center consoles armrest. 91 and 92 have the armrest, and are pretty much unchanged otherwise from 90(except that map lights were available in non-sunroof models starting in late 92..I THINK, I know 93 has them). Some of the very last 92's and all 93's contain hyperautic pistons as opposed to the forged units in the earlier cars. There were some camshaft revisions along the way but that's pretty much the extent of it. If you get an 87-93GT make sure that you rewire the foglights if you plan on using them alot. Also, check the wiper motor to make sure that it has had the TSB performed on it, and check the torqueboxes on any of the mustangs you look at(cracked boxes are a sign of abuse....believe me, I know!). Another thing to check is the TFI module on the dist....if it's still the OEM unit, be prepaired to replace it somewhere along the line, they tend to fail. These cars also like to rust along the underside of hatch(where the tag lights are) and under the wings. As usual, check for RDOT stickers under the hood/fenders/front cover/hatch/quater panels etc. This will tell you if it has been in a major collision and repaired at a certified facility or not. Don't be scarred off if the hood lines dont' all line up perfect, even cars that haven't been wrecked develop this problem. The only other items that come to mind immediately are the ash tray doors, and the flip up lids on the center console. If you find a car where these haven't broken yet they probably will. Don't worry, they are easy to repair.------------------ -FISHTAIL 92GT "The Ghetto Sled" CMPS major @ University of MD college park Best ET/MPH thus far: 14.40/100.67mph....damn wheel spin. lock released fuel doors ---my lock is broke If you get an 87-93GT make sure that you rewire the foglights if you plan on using them alot. -----YUP! mine are missing Also, check the wiper motor to make sure that it has had the TSB performed on it-----ya NEVER wanna get caught in the rain with no wipers!!...made our own cover These cars also like to rust along the underside of hatch(where the tag lights are) and under the wings. -----yes they do As usual, check for RDOT stickers under the hood/fenders/front cover/hatch/quater panels etc ------- all check, except i found out my passenger door was replaced. very little paint had chipped away by the black stuff under the winder, and it was red. Don't be scarred off if the hood lines dont' all line up perfect, even cars that haven't been wrecked develop this problem ------ scared me when i first saw it the ash tray doors, and the flip up lids on the center console. ----- doesn't bother me one bit [This message has been edited by Boss302 (edited 09-23-2002).]

Boss......the torque boxes are easy to locate. Yes, they are underneith the car. Look at your lower control arms in the rear(where the spring sits). Follow it up to the underside of the car. See that box where the control arm bolts to the frame/unibody? This is the torque box. ------------------ -FISHTAIL 92GT "The Ghetto Sled" CMPS major @ University of MD college park Best ET/MPH thus far: 14.40/100.67mph....damn wheel spin.
