Has anyone done a one barrel to two barrel carb conversion using a Clifford adapter plate? Have there been any problems with the Holley 2300 setup?
I want to get some info before I change the carb in my 1980 Mustang.
Thanx for the help.

I guess its later . Anyhow, I have the Holley 2300 on my '65 and I love it. I would never go back to the 1-barrel now. Lemme hit some of the things you have to look at. First one is hood clearance. I am not sure how much clearance there is with the I6 in a fox body but mine is very tight (I had to remove the stock heater/spacer that sits under that carb in a '65). It is taller than the stock 1-barrel. I can get you a measurement of height if ya want it.

I'm not sure how your throttle linkage is on your '80. If you have a cable throttle linkage going to the carb you are one up on me, otherwise you will probably have to custom fabricate some adapters to get the throttle to work like I did.

The adapter from Clifford is not really a bolt on piece. In order to get it to work I had to grind some of it with my dremel as the carb wouldnt clear it (parts of the carb was hitting so it wouldnt even bolt onto it). Luckily its aluminum so thats an easy thing to do.

All that being said, I love the Holley 2300. I have had no problems with the carb at all. It is a manual choke carb but I did convert mine to electric. Thats about all I can think of right now, lemme know if you have any other questions.

Don't forget to split the manifold and put on dual Smithy's.

Right Tim?

Split the manifold? Nope, get a dual outlet tubular header .

Had a dual outlet header on my car from my friends 66 Stang, even using regular mufflers it was too loud, so I went with the single outlet header that hooks up to a Flowmaster that has dual outlets. I love the dual exhaust, it's not too loud but it's loud enough that you hear me coming!

Thanks for the advice Tim, don't think hood clearance is going to be a problem though. I've got a K&N X-Stream filter that's going to go through a cutout in the hood that's covered by an functoinal 79-82 hood scoop. I love cold air induction don't you? (Not sure if it is real Cold Air Induction, but it sure sounds cool doesn't it?)

Or is that Ram-Air? All I know is that the six is going to kick out more horsepower!

I'm with Alex on this one . My '65 w/ 26" Smithy's isnt too loud and is better sounding than any lil I6 I have ever heard and have been told the same by everyone who has ever heard it. Most people think I am running a built V8 (the cam helps that with a slightly lumpy idle) but its not that loud. I've driven it on a 600 mile trip (1200 total) without any headache whatsoever (there is no drone) and I could hear my radio the whole time (spinnin that lil 200 up there too). Stupidest comment I have heard so far was from a friend of a friend who told me "thats not loud, my friends car is louder". That wasnt the point we were trying to show him, the point was it sounds great for any engine especially a 200 . I love shocking people when I pop the hood .

I'm just saying it was too loud for my taste, and I'm the only one that matters!

The newer 200's are louder than the older 200's for some reason, I think it's because of the pollution control garbage on it (which is all gone on mine now! )
