Ok, I noticed my A/C was "sweating" the other day, like it had been running. I file the info on the back burner, remembering to keep an eye on it.

Now I've noticed puddles of water forming on the garage floor (they were just drips) so I KNOW my A/C is running when it shouldn't be.

What could activate the A/C while the dash controls are off? I would assume it's an electronic switch somewhere that has closed, supplying the power to run the A/C, but where would this switch be?

Don't forget, using the defrost also activates the AC. But if you don't have the defrost, or either ac control on it's time to check a few things. Easiest way to make SURE it's the ac compressor is to unplug the thing. Drive around for a day w/ it unplugged, and see if the puddle still forms. If it does, you have another problem. If it doesn't, then you have to start traceing wires to find out what's activateing the compressor when you arent telling it too. This could prove to be a real pain, so try the other stuff first .

I'm positive it's my A/C. There's no coolant in the puddle, but I checked the radiator and water pump anyway so I could eliminate them as being the cause.

And actually, I shouldn't say the controls are off, they're set on the "Floor" position.

I'm sure it's my A/C though because even when I turn the temp controls all the way to hot, I only get "kinda warm" air flowing through the vents.

Hmmm. You have an AC relay but they usually don't stick closed. But its the only thing I can think of that would cause this.

Edit- a bad AC clutch might; unplug the compressor and start it up; see if the compressor still turns with the engine running.

stewart, take the wire off of the compressor. then start the engine. the pully on the compressor will be turning but the center part (the compressor) should not be turning. if it is then you have a locked up (broke) clutch. if the center is not turning, then look elsewhere. hope this helps.

Well, the other day I popped the hood and plugged the A/C back into the wiring harness, like Charlie suggested. Guess what? Now it's working perfectly!

Go figure!

PS - Mike, thanks for clarifying!
