i am thinking of purchasing an 85 hatchback and swaping a 460 in to it. other than the usual suspension, brakes, and chassis upgrades, does anybody have any ideas and or comments?? i would love to hear them.

Where are you going to put it? In the hatch area? Seriously, will it fit? Have you measured it out or checked into it? I know a 351 will fit, but a 460?? Whewwwwwwwww! That's a big engine!! Plus you'll have a really bad weight distribution problem (extremely front heavy). Plus, the Fox chassis' are notoriously bad when it comes to body flex. You'll need subframes for the subframes!! I just saw a an 84 or 85 Stang with a stroked 460 just over the weekend (518 I think.) I didn't get to much into with him, but the thing fit and looked good. I am sure he did a little chopping, not to mention making room for the C-6.

I saw a late 80's mustang with a 460 in it a few years ago at a car show. The owner made it look like a factory install by not using any obvious high performance parts on it. Cast iron exhaust, valve covers, intake, and air cleaner, including factory stickers listing it as a 460 on the lid. Neat! It fit well. Didn't look tight or as tight as I've seen some other engine swaps.------------------ 93 Cobra 'R' #58

Kaufmann Products makes a swap kit for this, incl headers but I've been unable to get onto their website lately - might have closed it? www.kaufmannproducts.com I know they also advertise in Mustang mags

I saw one at the Monroe Swap Meet last year. It looked like it came that way from the factory. Guy said it went like a raped ape in a straight line but didn't corner worth a hoot.
