No, all 8.8`s were not equipped with posi units, but MANY were. If the rear end is original, & still has the metal tag on 1 of the diff cover bolts, among other numbers it will have 8.8 stamped in the tag as well as the gear ratio. On a non posi, it will have just the ratio stamped, ie 2.73, 3.08 ect. On a posi rear, there will be a letter "L" in the ratio stamping, ie 2L73, or 3L08. The L indicates a locking rear end. If the tag is missing, turning one wheel, & having the other turn in the SAME direction, normally indicates a Traction lock rear. If you pull the diff cover off, you will see a S shaped steel preload spring between the side gears if it`s a posi. Hope this helps.
