In regards to swapping gears, do you just have to change the gear on the cable?
or is there something else you have to change?

Yup, just the gear on the cable. It's really simple to do. Remove the one bolt holding the cable in the tranny, pull it out and remove the clip holding the gear on. Pop the new gear in place of the old one, reinstall the clip and bolt the cable back in. 3 minutes, tops!
