I have just about completed my rearend upgrade. I've installed 4.10 gears into a 8.8 rearend and installed it in place of the old 7.5. The only difference between the two rears is the 7.5 had traction bars, while the 8.8 has axle dampers. The 8.8 does not have a mounting location for the traction bars and the car does not have a mounting location for the axle dampers. Which option should I make work. I can probably get the mounting brackets at the junk yard for the axle dampers if I go in that direction. What do you all think is best.Later, Boss66

Damn! Looks like this was overlooked. Sorry, Boss.I don't believe the dampers work well in a performance application. Steve, Thanks for the response. I have completed the swap several weeks(or months) ago. I did not use the traction bars (7.5 rear) or the axle dampners (8.8 rear). Seems to work fine. The gear swap went well also. I can go into details if anyone wants, but I ended up using the same shim thickness as came with the stock gears. The marking compound test showed a nice pattern and I have no unusual noise now that I'm driving the car. I was able to pull the pinion bearing with a puller I already had and I put the new one on by heating it and driving it on with a piece of pvc pipe. I did the entire rear and gear swap for less than $300. The 4.10 gears are great. Don't fear the gear. Thanks, Boss66 PS I've added a 2001 Cobra to my collection.

I am unsure of what you mean by these axle dampers? What kind of traction bars are they? Dont fear the gear is very good way of life! Oh I forgot about those I found the Quad shocks did stop a little wheel hop but I would not say the traction was ever very good with quads btu they were better then nothing. I would go with the traction bars Did you remove the weight on the front of the diff? If you did not......DO IT as soon as you stray from the stock gear ratio it no longer serves any purpose
